#Whyismarvelfilmsarenotcinemastillathing
Scorsese already explained his position and honestly, I think he made some valid points. Just let it go.

Why? Why is this remotely a thing? Like, this is akin to your Dad going to sort out a school bully. It doesn’t make anyone seem cool. Is Iger that paranoid about what Scorsese saying, and the widespread discussion it fostered in its wake, potentially ruining profits for future Marvel films? Because if that’s the reason, it’s dumb! The vast majority of people that agree with Martin’s perspective are still going to see MCU films. Hell, I’m entirely on his side and I saw Endgame thrice in cinemas!

I really have no idea why this is continuing to be a thing, or really why it ever was. An old guy said something out of touch, water is wet.

I really have no idea why this is continuing to be a thing, or really why it ever was. An old guy said something out of touch, water is wet. It isn't out of touch. It really, really is. Even his updated comments are basically, "How dare studios not want to shine more of a spotlight on movies that people aren't shelling out money to see?" The whole thing's just whining that the general public's tastes don't align with his.

Endgame and Irishman were both two of my favorite 2019 movies, so I don’t have a horse in this race .

Endgame and Irishman were both two of my favorite 2019 movies, so I don’t have a horse in this race . I feel like Marvel has just been going to the well. I haven’t been in love with a mcu movie since Winter Soldier. But The Irishman was also just a retread of a style we have seen him do before. Old gangster telling a story interwoven between narration. Neither did much for me beyond one viewing. I do wish there were more tentpole movies like in the 90s. Not necessarily less superheroes but more of the other stuff too.

Not sure if this point has been made here or not yet, but the irony in all this is that Scorsese could not have made The Irishman the way he wanted to if it weren't for Marvel adapting the de-aging software as much as they have the last few years. Them perfecting that software allowed Scorsese to use it for his movie.

Unfortunately, in their haste to dunk on Scorsese, people end up dunking on themselves. The widespread use of de-aging CGI shouldn't be attributed to Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Captain America: Civil War, or Ant-Man per se, but to X-Men 3: The Last Stand from that series of non-Disney Marvel films that most people now hate specifically because they aren't Disney Marvel movies. So while people are technically correct that Scorsese owes the existence of The Irishman to Marvel movies, they mis-attribute the historical development of de-aging CGI technology to the wrong Marvel comic book movies. This claim about de-aging CGI that exists because of Disney Marvel movies also unfortunately ignores all the non-superhero, non-Disney movies that employed this technology before the Disney Marvel movies themselves, like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Terminator: Salvation.

What Coppola said was worse then what Scorsese said Coppola hasn't made a good movie since 1983, so he's probably not even worth the energy of anyone from Disney/Marvel responding to.

Not a good look for a white American-British director to lecture the black director, black crew, and black and African actors about how authentically African something is.

WOW. Scorsese's comments might be an "agree to disagree" situation but Gilliam's are "Shut the f*** up and don't open your mouth again" level.
And I say this as a huge fan of Terry Gilliam's work. But here's just a snippet about "some stylist who got some African patterns and things", Ruth E. Carter, a highly respected costume designer who became the first African-American to win the Oscar for Costume Design for her work on Black Panther: "Carter's most recent work was on the Afrofuturist superhero Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther (2018), directed by Ryan Coogler. Her costumes were inspired by many traditional African garments, including those of the Maasai and Ndebele people.[9] She traveled to southern Africa to draw aesthetic inspirations and received permission to incorporate traditional Lesotho designs into the film's costumes"
