I don't think Cody/Bucks/etc. will ever, ever do full on "AUTHORITY FIGURE" the way the WWE has milked to death for 20+ years now.
Still, I think someone will have to be the law and order at some point.
I think this is where Arn Anderson would fit in perfectly, as the appearance at all out would dictate he's with AEW in some capacity anyway.

Gah that would be a hard move to pull off.
Literally everyone knows that Tony and the EVP's are in shoot control of everything, so what billet would the on-air authority figure fill? Surely they could only set up matches and put a stop to things when they get out of control in the ring.
I'm usually for some form of authority figure, when it's done right, like Cornette in late Impact, or sometimes even JJ Dillon in WCW as they didnt have huge angles revolving around them like McMahon did in WWF. But this go around with AEW I think I'd like to see them get through the shows without one. The UFC doesnt need Dana White meddling around with people during fights so I dont see why AEW would need to either.

As long as Tony Kahn himself stays out of this role, I'm okay with it existing. Vince is the only shoot owner to make that role work and there are few others that could get it right without feeling like a copy.

I was thinking about this last night and I think it’d be silly to completely rule out in the distant future. There’s a few ways they could go about it in new ways but..I think they, fans, companys have kind of run in into the ground. For a while, now.

I feel like we'd be much more likely to get an unseen or mostly unseen "Championship Committee" kind of thing than a direct "one boss who calls the shots" type. That, or acknowledge Cody and the Bucks as having power, but state they can't exercise it in their own interests.

I think a neutral “competition committee” responsible for booking matches and overseeing the standings for win/loss record would be the best way to go about it for All Elite.

What with being legally dead and all, Dario might have to go under an assumed name like "Luiz Fernandez-Gil" or something, but wrestling promotion's in his blood. I'm sure he could offer AEW a unique opportunity...

Tunney style or not at all, hopefully.
I definitely don't want to see a heel authority figure for at least another twenty years. Let the promotion be babyface.

I really hope not. I like the idea that the business end of organising matches and the like is done behind closed doors. Plus AEW works on the assumption that we know who runs the shows. I think adding a lazy booking crutch like an authority figure really takes away from something that helps it stand out in a good way.
Like, even the better examples such as Dario Cueto got progressively worse as they went on. It's just a bad and tired trope right now.

Down the road, I could see which ever of the EVPs retires first eases into a more traditional authority figure role, since everyone knows they run the show anyway.
But with knowledge of the inner workings of the company being as public as it is, having a fake authority figure clashing with the real ones would be really hard to sell, even if they did kayfabe firings of the EVPs.

He has adamantly stated that he will not be a presence on screen. And unlike Dixie, he seems levelheaded enough to actually keep his word on that. Anyway, if AEW really wants to be sports like, then they really don't need an onscreen authority personality, unless some kind of "big" angle happens that calls for it. You don't see Dana White booking himself into fights, or Roger Goodell cutting 20 minute heel promos on one the NFL teams before a game. They know people want an alternative to WWE, so they should do the opposite of what the McMahon's have been doing on screen for the past 20 years. Of course, this does create an awkward conundrum with all their EVP's being active wrestlers, but maybe on screen they can just... ignore it for now.

I thought I hated authority figures unless they were only on TV during major events like Jack Tunney, but then Dario Cueto came along and completely turned me around in the idea.

He definitely seems like he's wanting to wind down in the coming years, whereas Nick is like 4 years younger, and Cody really doesn't seem like he intends to hang up his boots anytime soon.
