Monster is on Netflix
If you never read the Manga or watched the anime, you should. One of the better horror/psychological ones out there

One of my favorite exchanges in the anime. Not to mention the writing is off the wall. Askeladd is introduced as an irredeemable villain, only to find out later that his cause for fighting is a just one when his backstory is revealed. Few characters are as multi-faceted as Askeladd is. He’s not one of those simple, one-dimensional characters that we're all accustomed to. He’s a murderer, manipulator, schemer, strategist, philosopher, and a warrior all in one.

He was a scheming manipulating asshole but he was never one dimensional. They did a great job with him as this is someone you wouldn't forgive for killing Thors but in the end he was only doing his job
He used everyone as his puppet for his goal but he did care for them in his own weird way. He was a bad father figure but that's what he became for Thorfinn even if he only sees it years later
What I like most is everyone is essentially a villain in some way but each go about the way they think best and accustomed to the world.

For starters, yes on Vinland Saga. I've read the manga, so while I can't enjoy experiencing it blind, I do love lurking elsewhere and seeing how people react to it.
Now going in blind to another, I'm massively enjoying Campfire Cooking in Another World. Not a big fan of isekai when it's too dark or there's heavy emphasis on story. Love stuff like these, just relaxing slice of life stuff when it comes to food. One other reason why I like Restaurant to Another World. Maybe it's the food. The meals made aren't too fancy that I don't understand it, so it's more relatable to my stomach compared to something like Shokugeki no Soma.
Plus, Sui. Praise to Sui.

What I like most is everyone is essentially a villain in some way but each go about the way they think best and accustomed to the world. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} The series is bang on depicting the ruthless environment of the medieval age. Things back then were brutal beyond what you see depicted in any work of fiction.
But yeah, another big moment in the series I really enjoyed surrounds Canute's transition from a shy & craven prince to a brave & ambitious rule. I also noticed he's picked up some traits from Askeladd, which is going to make things a bit more interesting as the series progresses. Leads me to believe he's going to become more clever & manipulative as the series progresses, especially now that he has to bear the responsibility as king in addition to his own ambitions.
There is a scene that really hit me though: Bjørn's death. That moment when Bjørn tells him that despite Askeladd's animosity towards the Danes, he still considered him a friend. Judging by Askeladd's expressions upon those words, I think it hit him hard.
And the other thing that Bjørn said that highlighted more of Askeladd's character: how he hates everything about himself. This one's especially important when you go back and read Askeladd's body language throughout the series.

Started watching the first few episodes of the second season of Vinland Saga.
{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Things are off to what looks to be a very slow start, although there does seem to be some things to unpack despite the slow takeoff.
1. We're introduced to a new character in Einar, with the series starting off by introducing him, the story of him losing his family, becoming captured, and then being sold off to a farmer as a slave. All of this becoming necessary groundwork leading up to him meeting Thorfinn.
2. As the first few episodes progresses, we get to see the bonds between Thorfinn and Einar grow, and we also bear witness to how broken Thorfinn is.
3. We see both of them get thrown into a life or death situation, revealing more and more about both their characters. Einar is shown to be selfless and brave and Thorfinn gets a piece of his ear cut off, plus we're shown more of the depths of his trauma. We get to find out how emotionally broken Thorfinn truly is.
4. We witness Canute becoming more ruthless in his ambitions. That scene where he demonstrated his might and the consequences of what would happen to Mercia if they were to go to war against him. Man, that was savage.

Mmmmm. Vinland Saga's new OP. Noice. Toit. And, spoilers. Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler, do not read spoilered text if you don't want spoilers. Do not. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Just reading up on discussions on the anime on how Thorfinn will have to be back in the battlefield, more or less forced to in the upcoming trouble. I'm gonna enjoy the realization for others that he really will not fight back during the fight on the farm.
Like, I get it. Expected the same thing when I read the manga, but him taking the 100 blows and his answer to Canute was so satisfying. And I'll be able to enjoy seeing it through the discussions of those who are going in it blind.

I bought myself the complete set of Boys Run the Riot for my birthday. It's one of my favorite manga from recent years.

Been stuck in bed with a knee issue for the past week so been doing a lot of watching Spy X Family and got caught up this morning. Kind of wanting to try finding a similar-feeling show to keep up the tone, but I also don't want to try Buddy Daddies for the moment since there's kind of a difference between, "A similar show," and, "The same show."

Square Enix has officially translated the FF14 High School AU "Eorzea High" manga and released the first chapter for free.
I read a fantranslation last year and it's goofy and fun to see all the FF14 characters reimagined as high school students or school faculty. Emet-Selch being a guidance counselor is particularly inspired lol.
