I easily recall not only hearing the hype of how good Fury Road was but as well as its stance on showing empowered women with a feminist twist. Which is fine. Any piece of art should and usually does try to make a statement on whatever the creators happen to believe in. It helps if it’s good.

Much as I love that movie, Fury Road lost money. It did really well on home release though, which is why we're getting a sequel. I don’t want to say I don’t believe those numbers, but a significant loss when the film grossed more than twice its budget? Did they REALLY spend that much on ads? Welcome to Hollywood Accounting! For another example, New Line Cinema claimed IN COURT to have lost money on The Lord of the Rings when the cast demanded the royalties they were owned.

it's amazing that Hollywood accounting still exists in the way it does after all these years. Aren't there laws about announcing profit and loss numbers that mislead shareholders?
