Someone on twitter speculated this was deliberate on the part of NWA... they get to immediately pull it and try to look like the good guys, and they open themselves up to a whole new audience that, um, appreciates certain aspects of Cornette's commentary. The NWA gets known as the wrestling company that's friendly to that, but they also have deniability they were seeking that audience. I dunno, because I don't know if I believe they expected it to blow up. But it's possible. I would REALLY hope Corgan isn't THAT stupid. Doubt it's anything like that and more Conrette is a racist and bigot and NWA's editors are dumbasses. |

The NWA gets known as the wrestling company that's friendly to that, but they also have deniability they were seeking that audience. I dunno, because I don't know if I believe they expected it to blow up. But it's possible. I doubt it mostly just because I don't think the NWA's in the position to make that kind of gamble. If they were a podcast, sure, I can see that, but they're being pretty open with needing to find a TV deal and sponsors, and this sort of stuff is potentially going to be a big barrier to that. |

I bet Cornette is the type to go "Everything is so PC now, nobody has a sense of humour anymore!" when his overtly racist jokes don't land. If Corgan fires him, best believe he is going to have a meltdown. Cornette will only have himself to blame on this one if it goes down, but yeah, the guy is cool with you so long as he's on your payroll. Then you're public enemy number one. Basically, the managerial equivalent of Superstar Billy Graham. And I say this as someone who respects his place in the business, but damn. Joey Styles got canned from Evolve and other indies for one hideous comment and took himself out of the business because of the backlash. With Cornette, it's been far more frequent than that. If Jim is on their December PPV and tapings, it pretty much verifies that the NWA will never be more than a vanity project. |

They already were getting good press with Powerrr as a throwback, and also as another place where wrestlers could work and build a profile. There was even talks about possibly getting a TV deal. After listening to Billy Corgan on Busted Open this morning, he’s already so carny you’d think he’d been in the biz for decades. Cornette probably is the most influential person in their entire organization. Corgan & Lagana would no sooner edit him than they would Vince himself. Is it by accident Lagana referred to him as “talent” rather than by his name?
The only good that can come from this is if fans make sure to let them know that this won’t be accepted. Their show has actually been really good. I for one would hate to stop watching, but I will if they don’t fix the problem.
