But even if you're not sure the Fried Chicken/Black People thing was intentionally offensive. He's still making jokes about famine and people starving to death who have to live in extreme poverty. It's just disgusting in so many ways. Which is why I asked my question. People seemed big on the racist aspect, when it seems like much more of a “All Ethiopians are starving” joke than a “All black people like fried chicken” joke. And until pretty recently, starving Ethiopians jokes were pretty prevalent in American pop culture, so I didn’t think people would be that shocked by that aspect. Only one I can think of is South Park doing it. About 21 years ago. |

My mind doesn’t directly go there when it isn’t directed towards African Americans, as it is a stereotype with roots directly to Jim Crow. Wasn’t sure if it had the same context when said about Ethiopians. But even if you're not sure the Fried Chicken/Black People thing was intentionally offensive. Most Africans have to deal with extreme poverty, brutal governments run by autocrats or dictatorships (everyone is familiar with Moammar Gadhaffi, but over the years, there were some really, really f***ed up in the head people ruling these nations, and the people today aren't much better), and whenever we think of helping, our thoughts of donating consist mostly of shoes and merchandise of the team that didn't win this year's Super Bowl... you know, stuff that's superficial compared to, like, infrastructure and agriculture? So, when you got Angry Grandpa Yelling in a Wendy's Drive-Thru making quips about driving through a nation with a bucket of food, it's ignoring that context, and this isn't "woke" BS; this is stuff that's existed for decades. Throwing in stereotypical food associated with African-Americans and just randomly assigning African country only doubles down on how much wrong you can go onto that statement. |

I’m not feigning ignorance, that is a racist stereotype directly towards African Americans, not Ethiopians. I think it is a bad joke and shouldn’t fly in 2019, but didn’t think the fried chicken part was necessarily the offensive part. |

Not sure how to embed on mobile, but here is Lagana defending Corny earlier in the month. I'm starting to doubt anything will come of this. WE don’t see him helping the talent or others backstage because we don’t have access to that footage or those conversations. Publicly, we see the guy who told someone else to hang themselves, said a prominent women’s wrestler is a “butterface”, accuse a wrestler of having sex with someone a good decade+ younger than them from when they were 9 and call another guy a sex offender. And that’s the stuff I can remember. If he’s so good at that stuff, keep him there and away from the mike. |

I honestly don't think Cornette thought, "Shit, I'm going to make a racist joke!" I think his word choice was f***ing stupid and the whole point was that hungry Ethiopians would maul someone for food. That's still a pretty tasteless joke, but nowhere near as bad as it comes across.
Plus, half of the people losing their shit over this defended Randy Orton straight out using the N word, so f*** them and their picking and choosing of who to be mad at.

Cornette has said countless suspect shit. He doesn’t get the benefit of doubt and him and Randy aren’t the same thing. As someone who is black, Randy isn’t racist. The way he used the word was a clear slip up, tho I believe he no doubt uses the word as a term of endearment (even tho he shouldn’t) but they are not remotely the same Randy had a drunken slip up, Cornette has continuously said stupid shit for months |
