I know that being the tag team partner to a guy like William Regal, one of the most underappreciated wrestlers of all time, in my honest opinion, is going to mean that you can get pushed to the back-burner a bit.
But it seems to me that 'Squire' David Taylor was a pretty good example for what a 'Jannetty' is, he didn't go on to much singles success whereas, in the grand scheme of things, Regal did, but, like Marty, it wasn't like Dave was a bad worker, he just wasn't as good as Regal. It's weird how Regal seemed to team more with Earl Robert Eaton / Bobby Eaton, England's favourite Alabama son, than he did with his fellow countryman Dave Taylor.
That said, I will give WCW credit for bringing in the European guys like Regal, Taylor, Alex Wright, Fit Finlay and even Robbie Brookside and Doc Dean (who could've been used better than just being jobbers, why WCW decided to fly two lads from Liverpool out to America just for them to be jobbers? At least give them a push considering they flew a good few hours to get to WCW.)

I think by time David Taylor came in Regal's best days were behind him maybe even with drugs getting the best of him during that time period. The team with Eaton was probably also done more as a joke or just to throw the two together since they weren't doing anything. Regal had just been a TV or U.S. title holder and once that was over the initial fame he had went down. I am glad Regal got a second life in WWF as a trainer because from the accounts I read he was a pretty good guy which you can't always say about these old school trainers.

The Regal-Eaton team had real potential in the ring and for skits, but didn't last long enough. as for Taylor, I loved watching his matches o WCW Saturday Night.

This thread is quite interesting 'cause outside of Team Uppercut in 2009 CHIKARA (my favourite trio ever), I've never really seen him wrestling. (That includes his WWE run.) ...

I love his butterfly suplex rolled over into a pin. At least I think he was the one that did it.

The two things I remember from that is Claudio/Cesaro doing the Giant Swing to Grizzly Redwood around 100 rotations...and also how jacked Dave Taylor was, for his age, the dude looked like he could still kick someone's ass.

Worth noting that Taylor is 11 years older than Regal and was already a veteran of the European scene when Regal was just starting out. By the time he got to WCW he wasn't far off of 40 and was probably just happy to be making a living and working alongside some of his mates again, especially as it coincided with the British and European scene imploding.

I think he might have actually listed Taylor among the people he wanted to emulate once he got into the business because he was one of those wrestlers that was usually brought in to UK shows as a special attraction because Taylor spent the rest of the time travelling the world.

Taylor always looked grizzled, he might have been middle aged by the time he was in WCW, but he still looked like a dude you wouldn't mess with.

That’s my only real memory of Taylor in WWE. His WWE run was bizarre, I guess WWE thought since Finlay worked out so well another grizzled European vet would work out too
