This one hurts the childhood, but to do what you love for as long as he did, I can respect that. Rest well, good sir.

Big Bird was one of my favorite Muppets when I was a kid so this hurts.

Caroll Spinney was probably the first actual voice we heard from a video game. This is his voice in the 1990 NES game 'Big Bird's Hide and Speak.'

I met him 10 years ago at a local convention. I wish I could remember exactly what he said to me - ah, this bad memory of mine....... but what I'll never forget is how freakin' happy I was when he spoke to me as Oscar the Grouch.
RIP, sir, and God bless you for all the happiness you helped create for me and millions of other kids, both big and small, out there.

Like Stan Lee, this is a man who’s influenced millions of people without really even trying. A sad loss for the world, which could do with more people like him. Sleep well, sir.

This and the same day I found an online friend unexpectedly passed away.
I met him a year ago at a convention...he wasn't very talkative at the time and apparently was under the weather then. Got him to sign my SS Unpaved book. Hope he understood when I said how much he meant to us all.
What else can I say that hasn't been said before? It's all true and I too have had a childhood filled with memories thanks to him.
I guess, though, it has to be this way just...because.

How many of the OG puppeteers are with us? I am only thinking of Frank Oz.

How many of the OG puppeteers are with us? I am only thinking of Frank Oz. Of just Sesame Street, there's also from a quick search Daniel Seagren (Guy Smiley in the debut sketch, occasionally Big Bird's body and others) and Caroly Wilcox (no major roles listed, but was behind helping make what would become Elmo as well as help as the special underwater Miss Piggy Muppet for "The Great Muppet Caper"). EDIT: Seagren was also the pantomime role of Spider-Man for "The Electric Company".

Everyone's been posting THAT. Doesn't make me feel better. But truth is, it's hard to find a video snippet that's not going to get me down. BB and Swedish Chef (Jim Henson)? Nope. BB and Mister Rogers? Forget it, still gonna lose it. But...ironically, the Hooper clip is still a relevant and necessary message/lesson right up to this day. And to that I say, "You know, I'm gonna miss you Mr. Linney..."
