Buying multiple versions of the same piece of media I already own seems like a waste of money to me. It has to be something really special to justify the replacement. Or the original I have is broken. I am not going to argue with you on this. Though I have double-dipped, as noted in the OP, some of the time I will sell or donate the other version. One example that I had done that with was The Raid 2, as I originally had the American Blu Ray. A few months ago, I had ordered the Canadian Blu Ray, as it had footage that was originally in the international version. So I donated the Blu Ray that I originally had to the library. I might sell my PS3 copies of GTA V and Dead Rising 2 (and Off the Record) eventually. I see no reason to hold on to them at this point as I own the PS4 versions (Though DR2: OTR is only downloaded). I sold my PS3 copies of the Uncharted games after getting the Nathan Drake Collection for PS4. There was no reason to hold on to the original versions. Though I will note that there are exceptions as I had noted in the OP.

Since it’s my favorite game ever I have 5 copies of Skyrim. PS3, PS4, PSVR, PC (with the Elder Scrolls Anthology for just $20), Xbox One (for the mods that aren’t on the other console versions).

Sometimes, depends on if there's a difference, if I am getting a good deal on it, etc. That said, I have at least 3 Batman figures, a bunch of Batgirl, etc, so it happens with versions of characters.

I've collected different kind of posters every month for a while now. Maybe a year?
I bought fresh prints of the ones I really like (the ones that aren't in the range of 100 euros a piece), so I don't get a freak out moment if some drunken master throws wine to 'em or tear 'em while vacuuming...

A good amount of games. GTA San Andreas was bought at least 4 times. Tekken 3 at least 2. GTA5 was bought 2 times, just depends.

I do this with small items like dice games, card games, portable game consoles, and stuff like that so I have a backup in case one gets lost.

Lots of family and friends have benefited from me upgrading a pile of films/tv shows from DVD/VHS to Blu Ray.That reminds me I need to mail off my Freaks and geeks DVD set(the regular one I am keeping the yearbook edition) to my cousin. Promised it to her, whenever the Blu Ray set came out,and just haven't seen her or mailed them off.

I've lost count of how many times I've bought Sonic the Hedgehog via disc compilations, unlockable bonus games, and plug n play consoles.
I also have 2 copies of Wrestlemania XIX for the Gamecube(I bought another copy because I got sick of my brother always taking the game to his friend's house).
Oh, and I bought the PS3 version of Transformers Devastation for backup purposes in case something happens to my PS4. I just love the game so much.
