I wonder how much of the show they’ve managed to film. Would suck if they got hit with Covid-related production woes like the other DC/CW shows.

In the comics, Supergirl and Stargirl have very different personalities. You never know what they'll do in the show though. Johns is deeply involved in the show - he's got a professional and *considerable* personal connection to Stargirl - so whatever's made her work in the comics has to be in the show. Yeah, Johns based the character on his little sister, and then she died two years later on one of the 9/11 planes. If he's involved in the show, I'm sure they'll do right by the character.

Still confused as to why they are putting this on a different earth since ya know they just brought the rest of the shows together

She died in 1996, in a TWA plane explosion/crash off the coast of Long Island. Stargirl was created in her memory & he basically modelled the character after her.

Ah, I must have gotten stories about writers mixed up. Either way, it's the most loving and beautiful idea for a superhero to base them on your deceased sibling.

Still confused as to why they are putting this on a different earth since ya know they just brought the rest of the shows together They wanted all the CW shows to be on one Earth, since they are mostly linked. They wanted stuff like the DCU shows and the movies as part of the multiverse so they theoretically COULD cross over if the opportunity arose. Stargirl was originally supposed to be a DCU show. However, with DCU not being very successful, and the Arrowverse shows ending early this year, they worked out a deal for it to be on CW also. I'm sure if they knew Stargirl was going to air on CW, they would have set it on Earth Prime.

Well plus they're talking about using the Justice Society and a number of them have shown up on the main shows already(primarily Flash and Legends of Tomorrow). Probably wanted a fresh start with the characters.

Our main Arrowverse heroes as the Justice League (as was heavily implied at the end of Crisis) on Earth Prime and then the JSA on Earth-2. It would be like the old pre-crisis comics.

I just love how gradually DC has lifted restrictions they previously had on the TV shows. Like, this start off with a show about Green Arrow simply called Arrow, where the main character wasn't even called that until season 2 or 3. Now we're getting a frigging Superman show and a universe with (possibly) Justice Society and another with the Justice League.

Now it's done it justice without having to reboot. It's proof of what I've been saying for years. A show or movie doesn't have to be rebooted, you can just make better sequels.

If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend watching it when it airs on CW.

It also helps that the movies that wouldn’t allow for certain characters or whatever either flat out didn’t happen, bombed, or were poorly received enough while the TV shows were successful and built enough of an audience over the years for WB to just be like “screw it, we f***ed up, do what you want”.

IIRC, they wanted Stargirl to stand on its own without being bogged down in the Arrowverse. Pre-Crisis Arrowverse also had its own JSA (including its own Stargirl) as World War II era superheroes. So unless they were completely erased from the transition to post-Crisis Earth Prime, this show's more modern day setting and take on the character and JSA would be incompatible with that. Putting on another Earth instead of Prime gives the show room to breathe and tell its own story.

So I watched the premiere last night on the CW, fun show. Impressed they were able to pull off STRIPE in live action.

Man, did it premiere already?
I still need to watch the season finale of Supergirl.. There are so many DC shows it's hard to keep up. I can't even play catch up tonight, because I need to watch AEW Dark and Impact from last night, then Dynamite, NXT, and Dark Side Of The Ring. All that is going to take up my whole evening from getting off work until bed.
Maybe I'll make tomorrow a "DC heroines day" and watch Supergirl, Stargirl, Legends Of Tomorrow, and the last few eps of Harley Quinn.

Show has been renewed for season 2 "Only on CW"
So with this...
Doom Patrol being on HBO Max, and HQ seasons going there shortly....
will they finally pull the plug on DC UNiverse as a streaming service?

Shame it's going to be CW Only instead of going to be on HBO Max as well. Probably means the VFX budget is going to be slashed big time.
It's a pretty good show, too, though everyone's kind of an idiot on Team Stargirl so far.

Yea if it is going to the CW oh boy there goes the budget which is a huge help to this show because it really really REALLY helps the fight scenes which IMO are the absoloute best of all the shows.
that fight with her and shiv was beautiful.
