I played Majora's Mask and thought it was overrated. Not nearly as good as Ocarina of Time, that's my humble opinion.

Whether it or Wind Waker is my favorite really just depends on what day of the week it is.

I originally never like Majora Mask until I play the 3DS remake. The 3DS version fix all the problem I had with the N64 version.

I am in a bit of a weird spot in that I think I respect the game more than I love it, but it's very good, and has a lot of interesting ideas. Plus, I have to love that the f***ing Flatwoods Monster is in a Nintendo title.
Don't get me wrong, I still would rank it highly, but in terms of Zelda games I sit down to play, it wouldn't often be my first choice to revisit.

That was a very interesting review. His issues with the game are all valid. And the things he liked, are the things that most people mention when praising this game. There’s no other Zelda experience quite like it. And that’s a journey I only cared to experience once. But my memories of it are still very positive.

Never actually played that particular game, but since it used the same engine as Ocarina of Time I could see several of the points he mentioned being absolute nightmares. The concepts all seem neat as hell, but some of the tasks simply sound very ambitious for the games actual mechanics.

It's very in-depth, no horrible skits for most of the video either.

I originally never like Majora Mask until I play the 3DS remake. The 3DS version fix all the problem I had with the N64 version. The 3DS version, however, is a source of contention amongst fans. While it does fix some problems, it does introduce some new ones (such as how you now have to attack bosses in a specific manner as opposed to picking and choosing your manner of attack, which is most notorious in the Twinmold battle where the Giant Mask, which used to be optional and gave you a sense of might as you tore through the worms like they were nothing, is now mandatory and the manner to which you fought the boss had been nerfed, making you feel inept) and rather than be a roughly one-to-one restoration of the game like Ocarina of Time 3D was, it was effectively a revised game meant for people who were frustrated or scared off by the original N64 version, thus making it more of a "remake" than a "remaster". This video dissects these large changes, which should have a language warning attached.

Great video. Never cared for any of the Zelda games after that first one on the Gameboy. And really didnt like the two on the 64.

A really well done review. While I don't mind the AVGN "skits", I'm glad they were only prevalant in the beginning and the end. Even then, they fit in well and I liked the Twilight Zone vibe of it all. Plus, the callback to Raid 2020? Nice. I feel James was correct on pretty much everything. Majora's Mask has a unique atmosphere that isn't in any other Zelda game, with a slightly dire/depressing vibe that gets more prevalent the closer you get to the end. That moon getting closer and closer is creepy as f*** (and I love it). The sidequests are a treat to do ranging from the bizarre (Preventing aliens from abducting cows) to the somber (the Kefia/Anju reunion). And having 4 "characters" to switch through is great. Plus, name me any other game where you can turn Redeads into dancing ballerinas. You can't. But yeah, the gameplay hasn't aged as well. The camera can still be a pain in the ass. The 3D movement isn't as precise as it could be. And trying to manage your time with sidequests, dungeons, and items to collect can be a real headache. This is a game for those seasoned Zelda players. If you had trouble with Ocarina of Time, this game will make you have a bad time. As an aside, I do feel some of the problems with the movement could be down to the N64 sticks wearing down and being loose as all f***. Either replacing the sticks or getting the Brawler 64 controller would probably alleviate said problems.

I loved the shout-out to being so mad at a game that you stand up to play. I did that a LOT in my youth.

Think you might be right on that last point: I remember feeling like I was always able to be more precise with my aiming in Ocarina of Time on N64 during things like slingshot/bow and arrows minigames than I was on the re-releases on GameCube, but the sticks on my N64 controllers never got all loose and wiggly like I sometimes saw with other people's.
