I first discovered Bruiser Brody in a music video from a YouTube channel called IQWrestler and I was just captivated by not only his maniac look and how he looked like a Caveman that had been unfrozen and started to whoop ass, but also how he made even a knee drop look like a killer move.
So I went to find out more information about him and found out that he was just as capable of having shit matches as he was having wild brawls and I'm interested in finding Brody at his best, not when he unprofessionally went into business for himself against Lex Luger in a cage match.
So, out of curiosity, what are the best Bruiser Brody matches where you see exactly why he was so highly regarded as a monster heel and why he was such a huge draw not only in Japan, but pretty much every territory that he worked in, even if he was, by all accounts, a nightmare to deal with for promoters and other wrestlers.

My favorite Brody match was him and Hansen against Mil Mascaras and Dos Caras.
Mil Máscaras refused to sell for Brody so Brody just started to beat him up for real, Mil got scared and everytime Brody would entre the ring, he would just tag Dos Caras.

Why am I not surprised that Mil refused to sell for Brody? Also, I'm surprised that Brody didn't just respond to the no-selling by trying to yank of Mascaras' mask? Considering what I've heard about Brody, he probably wouldn't think twice about showing Mil's face for everyone to see?

But it just speaks to how egotistical Mil was, even by pro wrestling standards, where he would refuse to sell for Bruiser Brody, who looked like he could've killed a bear with his bare hands. I can't think of a single individual who's had a good thing to say about Mil; there probably is someone somewhere who likes the guy, but I've heard, like, 95% negative stories about him.

Your best bet is to just check out as many Hansen/Brody tag matches from AJPW as you can find. It’s wild watching the Japanese fans scattering as Brody enters swinging his chain without a care if he hits anyone.
Brody had a good 60ish minute match with Flair in I think St. Louis in the early 80s as well. Maybe around 1983 or so.

Madison will know better than me but I think it was Texas All Star wrestling that had a great run of bruiser matches with gary hart managing Bruiser. Word of warning do not buy the Jadat Sports Best of Bruiser Brody volume 1 dvd. There is some good matches on the dvd and it is 3 hours long. But it looks like they ripped the matches off youtube and ran them thru a bad video converter.

Yes he is, and Dos Caras' son. He's still not fond of Mil, though, or at the very least, knows his uncle is a primadonna. I do not know about anyone who has terribly kind things to say about Mil. Definitely an important star and influential, but also exceedingly selfish and vain. Foley and Jericho definitely weren't the first or last people to be unimpressed with his attitude.

I don't see anything in that Mascaras match resembling Mascaras tagging out every time Brody gets in. It's a complete mess of a match and uncooperative as hell, but Mil was working with him throughout.
I really don't think all that highly of Brody as a worker and generally think of him as basically a territorial version of Sid. But matches of his that I like:
- Brody vs. Dory Funk, Jr. (AJPW, 10/9/81)
- Brody & Snuka vs. The Funks (AJPW, 12/31/81)
- Brody vs. Terry Funk (AJPW, 12/7/82)
- Hansen & Brody vs. Baba & Jumbo (AJPW, 4/28/84)
- Brody vs. Blackwell (AWA, 10/21/84--marred by a HORRIBLE ending)
- Brody & Kerry Von Erich vs. Hayes/Gordy (World Class, 4/4/86)
- Brody vs. Abdullah (World Class, 8/4/86)

Bruiser Brody is my favorite wrestler since I saw first him perform live in Puerto Rico. I had a VHS tape called Bloody Bruiser Brody vs. The World. It suffered from very poor commentary dub by some idiot fan. You will see Japanese matches including tags, and Brody would come out swinging a chain to the tune of The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin as the crowd scattered. His bout with Antonio Inoki is good. Also, all of Brody's work in Puerto Rico was top-notch. Here he injured a local favorite, Maelo Huertas, the brother of his killer. I was on holiday in Puerto Rico and it was big local news. Promos by Brody ("HELLO PUERTO RICO!") were all over television, Brody was threatening more violence and Maelo Huertas in a halo vowing revenge. It was real in Puerto Rico! youtu.be/VCTDI6sbQlISee here as Hercules Ayala gives the local fans his contractual five minutes and then he gets the hell out of there! youtu.be/u555bglXd9k

Which begs the question, why was Mil still getting booked for as long as he was, where he was working with Genichiro Tenryu's company 'WAR' and Chris Jericho was also there and Mil remarked to Chris how "They don't care about you, they care about me." and I just have no idea how people put up with Mil's attitude? I get booking him in the golden age of lucha libre, don't get me wrong, but why was Tenryu, apparently a smart dude in his own right, booking a past his prime, over the hill egomaniac? Couldn't Tenryu have gotten someone like Psychosis or Super Crazy, or even Rey Mysterio Jr? Dude's who could actually go in the ring and didn't have Mil's monstrous ego?

Those guys didn't have the name recognition of mil mascaras, hermano. And lower guys like jericho, at the time, had to put up with it otherwise they were gone.

Pulls him by the mask lays some knees in and then Mil does flee. Brody is fascinating. A smart guy who at times exposed the business being a no sell who got pissed if people did it to him. But he’s far from the only one to act like it, but it led to his murder.

Mil was a dickhead, but he was a dickhead with a lot of name recognition and popularity in lucha circles, and WAR was in many ways a puro and lucha styles, Ultimo Dragon being something of the ultimate fusion of the two.
