This is the infamous Southwest Championship Wrestling angle that kickstarted their removal from USA Network and getting replaced by WWF, a turning point in the wrestling business. While the uploader is correct that this segment is *not* what got them kicked off the station, it was the first of two incidents that gave USA the push they needed to drop SCW and replace them with McMahon's stuff (the second incident was a super-bloody match that was sent in as part of an episode, despite USA warning SCW not to include that sort of stuff). Had this not happened, USA likely would have been more forgiving to SCW's late payments.

See I have heard it was those two angles, but also heard it was cause SCW got behind on paying USA for the air time.
I just wish more SCW footage was out there in decent quality. All of it I have found looks like 5th gen tapes.

Little did they know how much shit, literally and figuritively, they were in for with WWE.

It's funny that this one something that led to SCW being thrown off USA. It seems like a typical Memphis angle to me, haha.

SCW was behind payments, but likely would have worked something out. They managed to piss off the USA execs twice in the span of six weeks, which caused USA to stop trying to work things out.

At first I was wondering what they were thinking pissing off a network like that. Then I realized promoters were used to being absolute monopolies in their areas. Carnies can't compete against businessmen.

I’ve only really heard of SCW because of the Wrestling Gold DVD set. Cornette and Meltzer talked about this angle on the commentary track, from what I can remember.

I remember SCW holding a tournament to crown the "Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion". Pro Wrestling Illustrated criticized them for not including the NWA, WWF, and AWA champions in the tournament. By the way, Adrian Adonis was the winner

What a crazy change. They were kicked off the air for failing for pay for their air time, yet now WWE is paid millions by USA instead. And the two angles that contributed seem to be (I’ve never seen any of this outside of this thread) things that WWE would regularly get away with for years. Blood may have died down, but shit angles have been staples of WWE forever.
