I'm personally a fan of Joey Janela because he's got a cool 1980s asthetic and he's been doing really well for himself in AEW and showing that he doesn't need to do all that deathmatch stuff to be a great wrestler, he's just a great wrestler who also happens to love hurling himself into things that shouldn't be hurled into.
But are we ever going to find out how he bound and gagged Tully Blanchard? I get that Tully's past his prime, but it's not like someone who looks like Joey is hard to see coming. I thought that the feud with Shawn and Joey was over and they'd go on to do other stuff.
That said, I'd be down if this lead to Tully having a Heenan Family style faction and managing Kip Sabian as well as Shawn since Kip hasn't really been given a chance to shine since that match with Hangman Page.

My big issue was the way the ropes were just kinda draped over Tully.
If you aren't going to convincingly tie him up, use handcuffs.

I thought that the feud with Shawn and Joey was over and they'd go on to do other stuff. I mean, their last interaction was Spears interfering to eliminate Janela in the battle royal, don't really see why you'd think it was over.

Not really sure, honestly, I just imagined that they'd be interested in moving Joey up the card a bit.

I thought this was one of their worst spots so far.
Firstly, they got too many people and events with the blackout gimmick.
Secondly, Tully didn't exactly need a safe word to get out of those ropes, did he?

Yeah, I couldn't get past this, since they needed Tully to be able to run off during the scrum. The ropes looked awful though, if they're going to do that, just have him lay down as if Janela beat the shit out of him. Don't half ass this stuff.

The way the ropes were so loose and how Tully just kinda ran off I halfway expect Tully to turn on Spears and join Janela.

Wouldn't it have been more impactful to just have Janela drag out a bloodied and beaten Tully out from the back?

Wouldn't it have been more impactful to just have Janela drag out a bloodied and beaten Tully out from the back? I think they wanted to play on Spears’s entrance routine, but maybe they didn’t want to run the risk of Janela getting heat for beating up an old wrestling legend so they went for merely tying him up. The rope definitely could have stood to look less flimsy though.

Tully looked so apathetic during all of that.
Like, it just seemed like such a minor inconvenience for him to be tied up.

Janela was mocking Spears's entrance, which starts with a blackout. It wasn't just for the sake of it like that time Cody did it.

I wonder if part of Tully not selling it more is due to probable exposure to Gary Hart and other very oldschool managers who didn't beg off to the extent of a Jimmy Hart or Heenan, but remain defiant with faces to try to keep their heat. That's something you can very easily do wrong, but I think it's fine here. He's a tough old bastard who's even meaner spirited than he was in his youth, kayfabe-wise. He spiked Janela with his Spears onto concrete, after all. You don't necessarily expect him to sell being captured like he's Vince with the gun to his head by Austin.

They do need to ease off the blackout stuff, tho.
