If you like it, then that's totally cool, watch Inokiism style matches to your heart's content, but, personally, the only really shoot style wrestling show that I've been interested in is 'Bloodsport' and that's only because it's just something different and there's nothing like dude's kicking the shit out of each-other.
Now, I am well aware that it's a bit hypocritical of me to not understand most shoot style promotions like PANCRASE of UWFI and yet be a fan of the Bloodsport shows; but I'm going to continue with my question, anyway.
I just don't get why the idea of 'Oh, this is worked, but it's a shoot style, but it's still a worked pro wrestling match, only we're going to do nothing but kicks, takedowns and submission holds and go on about how 'real' we are, even though our matches are worked.'
Honestly, in 2019, I don't understand the appeal of shoot style promotions when UFC is a thing? It just seems pointless, but I'm all for trying to understand it more, maybe someone here can help me understand the appeal of worked shoot promotions in the professional wrestling landscape.
Edit: I also tried asking this question on my Twitter ages ago, but Inokiists just made remarks about how I should 'Stick to watching Sports Entertainment' and that 'You're too focused on the theatrics of pro wrestling and should really educate yourself on true wrestling.' so, yeah, I have no qualms if you like shoot style wrestling, but I don't like being looked down upon just because I'm not a fan of it. Then again, it's Twitter, I shouldn't really be surprised that I got Inokiists looking down their noses at me.

Sometimes they go too far but if you think of it like a style of Pro Wrestling... Like Lucha Libre it makes more sense.

I think it works best when it is presented as a style, and not treated as the end-all, be-all "REAL" wrestling.

For me it’s because I can watch it and suspend my disbelief without feeling like an idiot.

Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe @ LockDown is best example how to do this crap right in pro wrestling environment.

I love UWFI style and I disagree with the OP post. Its something about seeing stiff worked kicks and mat work that you dont see as much anymore. IMO withiut Bloodsport it would be a dying art

The matches in shoot style flow much more logically for me than the style that's been dominating most of the indie and mainstream wrestling scene since around 2010-2011 or so, with most of the matches having a natural beginning, middle, and end to them. I do watch MMA regularly and love it more than any other sport but that honestly isn't quite the appeal to me, despite the visual similarity. It isn't about the "realness" of it. I just want to be told a story and I find that lacking in most wrestling today which is why I've stopped watching wrestling almost entirely and won't start again until there stop being suicide dives and a lack of believable, consistent selling in nearly every match.

As long as a story can be told, there's really no limit to what can work in a ring...and yeah, Bloodsport was one of my absolute favorite shows I've ever attended in person, so it definitely works for me.

I am a grappling mark. I did judo and wrestling and martial arts growing up. I do catch, bjj, and muay thai now.
I love uwf-i style matches.
The kurt angle and benoit x-7 match is so good based on how legit it looked. And i like seeing brock do double legs and smashing people.
I also like how smooth zsj, kyle o'Reilly, bryan, and kushida work.
The llave style that sanada and andrade use also looks so cool to me.
The thing is though the style is just so much better if you have trained and if you mark for both mma and pro wrestling.
I like all types of wrestling. But guys like the steiners, ken shamrock, Regal, and finlay stood out to me based in their work. I mean yuji nagata was so over with me as a kid because of how much of a badass he looked.
But then if you grew up on wwe, uk, tna, and indy spotfest. Then the style will not appeal to you.
MMA Double J was the most i have ever marked for jeff jarrett

MMA Double J was the most i have ever marked for jeff jarrett It really depends on who is doing it and how they present it. I never had a problem with Ken Shamrock. I never had a problem with Regal's hooking style or Finlay as a wily bruiser. I don't really like current Lesnar with the ground-and-pound and Kimura stuff, though. And even though he's less irksome than he used to be (now that he's embraced being an obnoxious heel), I still don't like what I've seen from ZSJ with the "Walk circles around my opponent and give a display exhibition of holds while they give no resistance" stuff.
