Fortunately got an email right after it happened so was able to swiftly get it cancelled but was suddenly alerted to someone buying a pack of diapers and a $100 gift card. Changed my password right afterward and turned on two-step verification but it still has me pretty freaked out.

WOW! Glad you got to stop the transaction in time. Scary.

By chance do you have a wife? Because I was about to say, her buying those diapers sounds like a very unique way to break some major news to you.

Am I the only one that changes my password on stuff like Amazon every 3 months? I got a list of 20 I cycle thru for stuff that has say my credit card info stored.
Sure places like forums I don't bother. What's teh worst if someone hacked my account say here??? Read my PMs LOL. But for stuff that is important it is decent security to change your password halfway often.
Might just be cause when I worked for the city we had to change our password every 8 weeks.

I think I'll go turn on two-step verification for amazon.

Somehow it happened again despite the two-step verification. Fortunately they caught it and undid the changes on their own, and afterward I went through and removed all my payment methods. Hopefully that's the end of this shit.

Hopefully that's the end of this shit. It sounds like you have a key logger installed on your computer. You might want to wipe the computer and start fresh and then change everything again.

About a year back someone hacked my Amazon account and used it to review a couple of random items. I'm guessing they were just testing to see if I'd notice if there was any unauthorized activity on my account. As soon as I got E mail notification about it I deleted the comments and changed my password. Gotta stay on your toes with these things nowadays.

Hopefully that's the end of this shit. Do a scan for malware/spyware with tools like Spybot S&D and Malwarebyres. Also, after you do that, it helps to create a new email account and start using that for Amazon or other services.

I don't really know how the computer thing would do anything to get around the verification - since I have it by way of them having to call me with a code for it - but I went ahead and ran MalwareBytes and it did find something so hopefully that's the end of it. Going to download and run it on my laptop as well just to be sure, though I don't use it much so I think that one's probably okay.
Kind of starting to wonder if it might be my Firestick somehow since it's just been Amazon causing me problems.

Ugh, that sucks. Hope that's the last time it'll happen. I've had someone constantly signing up for different fast food cards with my email address, but thankfully they don't know anything aside from that. But I've got to cancel every last one of them after gaining control (which isn't hard, I just reset password) and change my email password.
