That match he was in at Survivor Series '91 was all weird to begin with, since Jim Neidhart was originally on Duggan's team but then got a worked injury during a match with Ric Flair, thus allowing them to sub in the face-turning Sgt. Slaughter, something they made very clear during previews and event center breaks... and then out of nowhere on the night of the show Hercules' picture shows up superimposed over Big Bully Busick's and Herc's earning another PPV pay day, no heads up to the crowd whatsoever. How low on the totem pole do you have to be to sub for Big Bully Busick? Just a reminder: Busick (who was a great/kewl gimmick, IMHO) did a job via count-out to THE BROOKLYN BRAWLER shortly before he left. That itself is low. Still, I wanna defend Herc....he was just a worker with a known name and past, who was still getting TV usage, but the high profile days were gone and if they needed a heel who would work, he was there and they obviously liked him enough to actually use him. *shrug*

He looked pretty rough by the end of his run in WWF, he always seemed red and blown-up, had a sweaty mullet, terrible seedy moustache and Sheik-like roid gut ballooning over his long tights. Herc looked absolutely awful his last 8-9 months on the roster. I don't know if he was hurt or just stopped giving a shit, but his physical decline was shockingly rapid.

Bret Hart doesn't have the greatest memory, but in one of his books he mentions a drunken party the wrestlers and Vince attended in Flair's suite. Flair didn't end up making it to his own party, but Earl Hebner, who was sleeping on a rollaway bed in the suite, let them all in. During the party a bunch of wrestlers urinated on Flair's bed. Eventually Vince stripped down to his boxers and started to wrestle people. I guess Bret and Curt went along with it, Hawk got taken down by Vince, and Neidhart scared Vince into not grabbing him. When Vince grabbed Hercules however, Herc turned Vince upside down, hurling him into the air, and Vince bounced off of Earls rollaway bed before luckily landing on his feet. Bret said Vince gave Herc a look like he was going to fire him for it. Herc was released not long afterwards.
So if that hadn't happened, it's possible he could have ended up on the Mania 8 card against Owen, Tatanka, or put in that 8 man tag match.

This reminds me of Herc's final night in the company, completely no-selling Sid's powerbomb. youtu.be/gHEJJr7w0oU

How low on the totem pole do you have to be to sub for Big Bully Busick? Not necessarily the case. Vince usually kept a few guys off of any given PPV so that they could fill-in if needed.

Probably especially prudent to do in an era where people were either sometimes very unreliable, or who might be pissy and quit if they had to do a job.
