Just so the announcers can constantly yell "King Roman Reigns, over the WWE Universe!".

Nah. That would be more interesting than the actual feud, so nope.

Roman should take a dump in the crown. 90’s style.
Too sweet me. 🤘

Has WWE ever done that? Had a KOTR winner defend their crown?

The King gimmick is so dumb. Win a tournament, think that you’re an actual king.

The King gimmick is so dumb. Win a tournament, think that you’re an actual king. Most of the time, this was not the case. From Bret to Lesnar (10 years), the only person to actually take on the "King" gimmick was Mabel and it failed terribly. Outside of Booker T, it has literally failed every time. Yet they continue with it...because?

Everyone else who did it looked like they hated every second of wearing the crown. I actually think Corbin is doing a decent job with it if only because he clearly loves making the crowd hate him.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan defended it and lost it to Macho Man. Duggan never won the king of the ring Tournament. he won it from Haku. Didn’t Haku himself win it from tourney winner Harley Race? IIRC, from that point it was defended as a title, pretty much up until Ultimate Warrior “retired” Macho King. (Savage didn’t actually retire at that point, of course, but turned face, retired the Macho King gimmick & returned to his Macho Man nickname).

Savage also technically won the title 2 years before beating Duggan by winning the tournament in 1987. But they didn't televise the tournament until 91 I think.

They did run an angle with it between Race & Haku, though, didn’t they? I thought they had a match for the crown that Haku won, though that may have been after Race returned from injury.

Rumble maybe? edit: yep 89 Rumble. Haku beat Race officially for the Crown and Scepter.

The Rumble match was to crown the "true" King of the WWF, so you could say that Haku eventually won it from Race in kayfabe.

So if Roman wins it, would he be the King of the Roman Empire?
