I know that a lot of you guys probably think that the idea of RPing on Twitter is weird, and, honestly, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that it was weird, but I've been doing it since late 2011 and it's now nearly 2020. I'm 23 years old and, honestly, it did help me meet people that i've come to genuinely respect and consider as friends and people that I can trust. But, over the past few months, the magic had gone from it, I would always unintentionally offend someone, never maliciously of course, and it was just getting exhausting to deal with it all and, today, after nearly 8 years of having various RP accounts, I've decided to finally move on with my life. I've gone from talking to people in the states to trying to reach out to some of my old college mates with the goal of getting more of a social life. It's weird though how long it took me to do it, like, I was genuinely hovering the idea around for an hour or so before I finally just decided to go forward with things. Also, I get that people think that RPing is weird, but, really, it is NO different to e-fedding that was big in the early to mid 2000s; just on a different platform and it wasn't like we were trying to scam the real life counterparts of the people that we would portray. But, I totally get that you'd probably want to laugh at me. But what's weird is that I feel kinda good. I've just cut off this one big part of my life that I did for nearly a decade, it helped me meet new friends and, weirdly, become more confident, so why am I happy that I've deactivated my RP accounts? Anyway, if you want to mock me for this weird hobby that I had, go right ahead.

I've done RPing on forums, IRC, AIM, Skype, Discord, WoW, ESO, and FF14. And of course, good ol' fashioned tabletop games like D&D. I'm in no position to judge, though I'd have to imagine Twitter's character limit would make things challenging at times.

Without giving out the account names or anything, what was it that you were RPing as?
Were they parody accounts? Did you just adopt the persona of some random character you made up? If so, what was their background?

I used to do it on old DBZ boards, Yahoo, AIM and MSN in the early 00s as a preteen and all the way till I was around 19 which was when I got a job. Nothing wrong with it, just moved on. I just can't imagine how it would be through Twitter and such.

It was actually surprisingly easy on Twitter, like, promos would be cut between accounts and it would be a case of, if there was a long promo, that lasted a few tweets, they'd often just have a thread of tweets which would have something like '~' to let the person know that the person wasn't finished. It was quite fun, but I've been doing it since late 2011 and I just don't think it's for me anymore.

Depends on many things.

I mean, I don't see anything wrong with it. If you're glad you stopped then that's good, but I see it as a perfectly harmless hobby.

Even after the boost of the limit to 280, and DMs losing their character limit entirely, it can be a real pain in the ass. Uh, theoretically.
