Let's share our memories of this beloved masterpiece.
The good:
- One of the best soundtracks with the best ever boss theme - The battle system - Sazh - Lightning (bad in the sequels) - Lighting Returns - The graphics - Gran Pulse
The bad:
- The story - It's linear - Hope - Vanille - The villains - The Crystarium

The good:

That soundtrack is tremendous
XIII-2 is the game they wanted this to be and it sits very well with other good FF games

I keep booting it up, determined to beat it and I just can't get through it. The soundtrack, though, is brilliant and very exciting.

Definitely the game in the series that still divides the fans more than any other.
It sits in the middle of the series for me. Sometimes I hate it and other times...I can tolerate it. When I played it upon launch I wasn’t impressed. Three years later I played it again and I loved it. Then I played it two years after that and hated it. The soundtrack was awesome and I really liked the combat. And I didn’t mind the Crystalarium. But the story was weak and the characters were unbearable. On my third playthrough the moment Hope opened his mouth I skipped the scene, and I never skip scenes. The sequels were both better.
I’ve always felt a game with the first ones gameplay, the seconds writing and characters and the thirds locations and open world-ish design would have been an incredible game.
I’ve been playing XII the last few months and it’s funny how that game is now pretty much lumped in with II, III and V as a “forgotten” Final Fantasy.

Not that I have an even slightly high opinion of 13 but I continue to find it weird they haven't done a bundle trilogy port for the PS4 / One. It'd probably take virtually no effort, the game has enough fans I'm sure it'd sell, and it might help make up for how Lighting Returns flopped.

You have 30 seconds to take that back. Only played the first. Can probably play the sequels on my new computer, but the bad taste of the first is making me delay that.
