Not every turn works and some are short lived or the audience doesn’t react as hoped. On the other hand, often times we get a run that maybe we didn’t know we needed.
What are some you think of.

Eddie Guerrero turning heel on Tajiri on Smackdown in July 2003, the fans wouldn't boo him and he would turn back into a babyface a month later.
Of course his heel turn in 05 was done much better as he changed his theme, didn't smile as much and was more sinister.

Rikishi. No one bought him as a main event heel to the extent that they had to redact him being the man who ran over Stone Cold to Trips being the 'mastermind' behind the attack.

Tatanka’s heel turn; it didn’t sit right as he didn’t really change his style or look. A scowl and a swagger can help a heel character, but his was so exaggerated it was almost comical.

I liked the suit, but there was not much difference. They were talking about his heel turn on the Lapsed Fan podcast and brought up an idea that he should used his real name Chris Chavis after joining up with DiBiase. I think that would have helped set him apart from his Tatanka gimmick.

Orton's August-November 2004 "face" "run" is one of the more baffling ones this side of the millennium.
It really did more to endear Triple H than him at that point.

I was watching through some New Generation stuff a while back and was surprised how well Tatanka's initial turn was done; it was actually a pretty good swerve (and the match against Luger was better than you'd expect). Afterwards, yeah, he was just boring because he couldn't do the stuff that made him a fun character anymore.
Going to look at the question differently, though, and mention X-Pac turning on Kane. Not that the angle didn't get great heat at the time or that he didn't play a fine slimeball, cause it did and he did, but he had stink on him from it the rest of his tenure with the company and fans never accepted him as a good guy again. Before that, he was getting face pops bigger than anyone other than the top shelf guys like Stone Cold and The Rock. Crazy how an alignment change had that kind of lasting impact.

Sadly, Dean Ambrose falls into the didn't work category as well, even though it should have been one of the great heel runs of this decade. Thanks WWE bookers.

CM Punk's final heel turn didn't work. He was still getting cheers while dumping out Paul Bearer's "ashes."

Yes it didn't help that he was still in his Native American gear. Which reminds me... "Richard" Morton with the York Foundation. Still wore his Rock 'n' Roll tights still had the mullet, etc. etc.

He absolutely had the babyface moveset but everything else was not there Turning him face and giving him a 30 day run to be basically be f***ed by HHH for a few months hurt him greatly until he went after the Undertaker and RatedRKO

I'll go with Samoa Joe turning heel at TNA Slammaversary 2009(?) when he joined the Main Event Mafia. Yes, it was "weird face paint" Joe, but he still had the crowd behind him and could have gone on a really strong ultraviolent tweener streak where he and the other TNA faces could've taken down the Mafia, only for Joe's violent tendencies to lead to him turning heel and becoming the big boss for guys like AJ to conquer in the World title scene. Instead, he became just another MEM member while Angle held the World title. It took Russo being removed once and for all for Joe's booking to finally recover after all of that, but by then it was too little, too late, and though Joe got close to the top of the card a few times after that (e.g. his cage title match against Magnus circa 2012) I really feel like that was the last chance to make him an absolute top dog in the company.

Sting's heel turn in WCW's dying days didn't work at all. "Hey, let's have Heel Sting and Luger beat up Flair, who's screwed over both guys repeatedly!" Also Ricky Steamboat in TNA. The Dragon is probably the Ultimate Babyface. Who's gonna boo him?

The Dragon is probably the Ultimate Babyface. Who's gonna boo him? Wait .. Steamboat was a heel in TNA? I missed that. I've always said though a heel Steamboat with Heenan as his manager would have been cool in the late 80's. Going after Hogan for the title.

If they'd stuck with keeping Flair face after Funk piledrove him in 1989 and Luger heel, which he was at the time, they could have given the latter the world title and have Sting take it from Luger. A face Flair would have been a good foil for a heel Sting later on.
