Today these guys could be called some of ROH’s top talent. A bit different from 2005.

"I have five TEETH, referee!" Imagine ROH sending him to a New Japan show. NJPW Exec: I’m excited to see what ROH has in store for us! Over the years they’ve sent us guys like AJ Styles, Adam Cole, and Jay Lethal. *Beer City Bruiser shows up* NJPW Exec: The f***?

"I have five TEETH, referee!" Imagine ROH sending him to a New Japan show. For joint tours, there are lists of talent available. The side hosting will make their choices from those available. Bruiser is a great wrestler who does almost all the little things right, has wrestled for 20+ years without injuring anyone, and looks like nobody has on the New Japan roster - that sounds like a nice fit to me, no?

None of that means he doesn't suck. You can be safe and suck. You can be a veteran and suck. You can have a unique look and suck. Hell, you can be a huge star and suck. Bruiser is one of those rare cases who has all 3 and sucks. He's definitely not a star, though.

There’s no shortage of guys who have the basics down, don’t look like anyone in NJPW, and have been wrestling forever. Some of them wrestle in front of a dozen apathetic fans at local shows.

I think it's a case of market saturation.
Back in the early 2000's, the three most notable indy promotions were ROH, Chikara, and CZW, and all stood out for different reasons. ROH was the "workrate" promotion, Chikara was the family-friendly promotion with the colourful gimmicks and wrestling styles most American fans hadn't really seen, and CZW was the ultraviolent successor to ECW.
As these promotions' stocks rose and more and more wrestlers from those promotions started getting into the mainstream, more wrestlers and promotions began starting up, using those three as a template for what they wanted to be.
So now, there are dozens of companies doing "workrate". There are lucha-based promotions springing up all around the world, and more guys like WARHORSE and Danhausen are getting over with the colourful gimmicks. GCW is now getting more hype than CZW for doing the same thing CZW made its name on. The Big Three essentially influenced an entire generation of wrestlers, and it's divided their audiences in the long run, and none of them stand out as much as they used to.

I worked with Bruiser in the fake AWA. (He was Dinn T. More back then.) Super creative, always listened to my ideas and generally wonderful to deal with. Been a fan ever since.

I don't know if Bruiser would make it in my top 15 list of issues the company has right now.

Yeah, I don’t see a problem with Bruiser. Guy works fine, gets a nice reaction, and it’s not like he’s dominating screen time if you’re not a fan of his.
Besides, I remember the Carnage Crew era.

They're not featured all over or shoehorning themselves into stuff like some guys I could mention ( BULLY RAY). Plus Bruiser was a hoot in last year's Christmas Random Draw match.

The Bouncers are cheap fun, and Bruiser isn't half-bad.
I also love chanting "BEER" wherever I go.
