Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure that it's frustrating to be a wrestler and you see everyone giving you shit, but that is not an excuse for pro wrestlers, at any level, indy or mainstream, to take shots at fans on social media and it just makes them come off as super insecure.
I know, it's rich of a guy like me to criticise a wrestler for being insecure on social media, but they're meant to be better than that, look at Seth Rollins who has been absolutely battered over social media for his tirades. Yet, whenever a movie bombs, you rarely see an actor going on Twitter to shit-talk the fans, so why do wrestlers do it an insane amount? What makes them different to any other practictioner of any other form of entertainment?
Like, if someone said that the new Cats movie sucked, I doubt you'd get Idris Elba taking to Twitter to tell the people who didn't like it that they should "Shut up and enjoy it." (also, I've never seen the new Cats movie, but I'm a big fan of Idris, so I'm sure he was one of the best things about it.)
So why are wrestlers different in how they respond to criticism in this social media age?
That said, if I was a wrestler, I'd probably lash out an arm-chair critic who's never stepped into a ring in their life trying to tell me how to do my job.

Depends on the individual. A lot of them get exhausted from entitled fans who don't respect boundaries and take it out on people. Some of them get an ego. Some are in a bad mood from stress and harsh travel. Some are just dicks.

Because they are unlikely to take shots at the promoters who book the shitty products that drive fans away from wrestling.

...for the same reason restaurant owners respond to bad Yelp reviews.
As a professional wrestler you need to dedicate your entire life to it, which means you’re sacrificing your entire life for it.
If a movie fails an actor/actress can move on and work on different projects.
If fans tag somebody on social media and insults them they shouldn’t be surprised if workers snap back. They eat, sleep, and breathe the wrestling business.
In a dog eat dog profession it shouldn’t come as a surprised that some of the dogs will bark back. If you don’t have any fight in you you’re probably not destined for success in such a difficult business.

They're human and often the target of a great deal of abuse, often going well beyond reasonable criticism of performance. Of course there are some who are just dicks or are trying to curry favour with a promoter by being a hero on social media.

Like other celebrities, fans often forget that they are human beings who are subject to stress and insecurities. People aren't always at their A-game all the time and some entitled fan thinking they're entitled to their entire lives is going to push some buttons.

A decent number of fans do not respect boundaries and "know their place" in the bigger scheme of things. So yes, while a movie may bomb and you don't get a ton of actors saying shut up and enjoy the movie, the fans know their as procedures and not everything is tied to just one person. However, in that same toke, wrestling also has a lot of procedures but that does not stop fans from attacking them personally
There are some fans who mean well while they are wrestlers who are just dicks as well. In saying that though, don't act like an injustice is done against you if you attack a wrestler and they clap back. Yes, they entertain and are in the public eye but if you going to cross that road and be disrespectful you best be prepared to get shouted on.
For the fans, don't be a self entitled asshole and for the wrestlers don't be stick in the mud dickheads.

People aren't always at their A-game all the time and some entitled fan thinking they're entitled to their entire lives is going to push some buttons. Bingo. It's all about how you treat them. For Example, Scott Dawson can be a pretty mean guy on dumb fans, but he's been nothing but kind to me on several occasions.

Some people have the sense of feeling like they are owed respect, by the talent. If I see you at an airport, you better be ready to smile and talk, until MY flight is ready. They get frustrated with that, and vent on social media. They already take time away from their families, and miss big moments in their kids lives, to entertain us. I can see where they may lash out.

I think all of the above is valid. Some have good reasons, but there are others who just have bad attitudes.

Honestly, I don't blame them in a lot of cases. A lot of the crap said on Twitter directly to these guys & ladies would NEVER be said face to face. Twitter trolls are some of the biggest pu$$ies and if any celebrity/athlete/wrestler/etc. want to stand up for themselves, so be it. Of course, the reaction is what these dorks are looking for..... so there's that too. For better or worse, this is what Social Media is about these days.

Usually I'm against it, but sometimes I see fans act like complete assholes and then understand why some can't resist hitting back. I've seen some really nasty shit, like people wishing injury on Alexa Bliss and Mandy Rose just because they don't like them.

I couldn't imagine caring what some random idiot on Twitter says about me if I were famous and made a living off of people showing up to see me, but to reach their own.
