Anyone else notice this? Seems after Montreal, it all went to his head. The slow count and the way he did things, boy, he really tried to steal the limelight. It got quite annoying.
Who else agrees?

You won't find many posters here who don't think Hebner blows.

He would also always find a way to position himself so he could do some dramatic jump over the wrestlers then land to make the count. Such a tool.

I've never noticed this in my life haha.
One thing I've picked up a little recently is how telegraphed some refs are when they're obviously not going to count 3. Like the 3rd time their arm comes down it'll be totally different to the first two cos they're gonna stop halfway.

My favorite Heyman moment of all time is his line about Hebner during the WWF vs. Alliance match at Survivor Series 2001 when Austin had Rock in the Sharpshooter.
Heyman: "Why doesn't Hebner call for the bell like he likes to?"
JR: "Because The Rock hasn't tapped."
Heyman: "Well that's never stopped him before at Survivor Series!"

I never pay attention to the ref until he starts the count or gets hit like a shotgun or when they are clearly going to slap the mat for a 3 but because the wrestler forgets to kick out the ref suddenly has to check if their shoulder is down or pretend like they had their leg pulled or something. Makes everyone look bad.

The more I think about it, besides Vince, the payoff should've been Earl getting put in the sharpshooter by Bret at Wrestlemania 26. I mean, Earl didn't have to "listen" to Vince.
So therefore, he turned heel too. Shame most people didn't see it that way in 1997.
Face Turn: Bret Hart Heel Turn: Vince McMahon, Earl Hebner

a good referee should be seen and not heard unless they are taking a bump (and shouldn't be stealing focus if they are counting a pin)
so by that definition Earl is not a good referee

Him getting fired from the WWE was really deserved. (selling merch out of his car.)
He probably gets a good wage being the senior referee (who I think are actual employees) and he steals from his employer like that. What a scumbag.

Earl is an absolutely atrocious referee.
Have AEW stopped using him entirely now? I really hope they have.

The latest episode of OSW picked up on Earl getting in on Razor Ramon's celebration after the ladder match with HBK at Wrestlemania 10. Seems like Mr Hebner was an attention whore long before Montreal.

When I was a kid I loved Earl Hebner. I thought he was the best; always fighting back against the heels. I had two of his action figures and loved his match against Nick Patrick at Invasion (!)
I was surprised to see his negative reputation once I started visiting wrestling sites on the internet.
Then I started watching back old stuff and understood completely. Such an attention whore, and he telegraphs pinfalls worse than any other referee I’ve ever seen. How did I not notice that as a kid? He makes it so obvious that a kick out is going to happen.

To be honest, if he's been around, he's been entirely tuned out by me to where I didn't notice. Aubrey Edwards is their senior referee, and Rick Knox and Bryce who used to be in CHIKARA round things out.
