#168 - Star Trek (2009)
*Blu-Ray
Growing up, I was always a Star Wars kid and mostly avoided Star Trek, even though my dad loved it. This reboot made me a Star Trek fan thanks to the great characters/cast and a well paced story with some great emotional moments. It’s one of the best reboots I’ve ever seen. [****½]

396. Airplane! (1980) – given the recent thread, I couldn't help but laugh to myself of lines or particular scenes, and I've probably seen this in double figures now and I still laugh out loud especially if I go a few years and I forget some little moments. Great cast. One of the funniest comedies ever imo.
397. Panic (1963) – British crime movie which works thanks in no small part to the performances of the cast and some decent moments of tension even if the plot is not particularly fresh.
398. Bullies (1986) – For the early part of the movie I would have described it as not bad but as the film went on it got upgraded to pretty good, the film got much more tense. A family – a father and three bullies are psychopaths who pretty scare the small town (the daughter, played by Olivia d'Abo is a rose among the thorns)
399. Trans-Europ-Express (1966) – An early scene is purposely funny and it gave me hope that film would continue this tone but doesn't, but the premise of a film within a film is still pretty good and though and there is much to like about it.

400. The Blue Angel (1930) – realized I didn't really know the plot of this film before watching it, Emil Jannings – whose career never recovered after WW2 due to his political leanings – is great here and plays his character well, the same thing could be said about Marlene Dietrich too. Really enjoyed this.
401. The Hotel New Hampshire (1984) – a lot of the elements of this are a quirky comedy... but the dramatic moments are too dramatic, so the tone is all over the f***ing place and parts. Jodie Foster is as always excellent and there is enough decent moments (though there is many not so great moments) so the film as things of value in it buried in there somewhere.
402. L'inferno (1911) – finally got around to watching this off my list after Adam recommended it to me months ago. This was great – effects, sets, costumes – still so impressive today, the story also moved on at a brisk pace. Recommended.
403. Dadnapped (2009) – Disney Channel original movie starring a bunch of Disney stars headlined by Emily Osment, some I'm a familiar with and others not so (including one actor who I noticed was recently in The King os Staten Island). It's a Disney-fied version of obsessive fans kidnapping their favourite author (nothing like Misery). Watchable for what it is.

127. Blood of Dracula’s Castle *DVD* This chessy movie features most charming, sweetest Count Dracula and his Countess. Living in a castle they rent in Arizona and facing eviction. Who are the bad guys again? Wicked terrible transfer that adds to how how terrible the movie is. I just wish there was some bad makeup or something showing the vampires “true forms”.

Movie # I have no clue
Keoma-Blu Ray from Mill Creek
Been trying to watch more Westerns this past few years. Was one genre I never saw much of. This stars Franco Nero as Keoma, who is half Native American/Half white. He comes back to the tiny town of Skidoo City after the Civil war. Only to find a plague has ran thru the town . The infected have been made to live in a mineshaft outside town. And the town is controlled by a War General and Keoama's three asshole half brothers.
Spaghetti Westerns are known for being way more style than substance. This one is a decent balance of both. Good story, decent acting. Lots of nice action pieces. Only drawback is Franco Nero as Keoma speaks with think I am assuming Italian accent.

104. The Order (2001) - Watched this on DVD. This is a movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme. I have to say that this was sort of underrated. Sure, it was past the point when Van Damme was no longer doing theatrical movies, but it was a bit entertaining. It had some entertaining stunts and fight scenes, as well as some levity in some areas. There were nice shots of Jerusalem, as well. Yes, it was actually shot there. The story was a bit confusing in some areas, but if you look past it, you may have a good time with it.
105. The Big Bounce (2004) - Watched this on DVD. This is a really confusing case, because I swear that I may have watched this on HBO On Demand at one point but just had little memory of it. Years ago, I found this at a small business (which has since closed down) and bought it on DVD. Lately, I have had an itch to watch it because I saw it in a drawer I had some stuff in. I think I did watch it, but just had little recollection of it. Anyway, this movie was judged pretty harshly when it came out, but I felt that it had its charm. Owen Wilson was good. Morgan Freeman didn't do a bad job. Sara Foster was easy on the eyes, but she could have done a better job with the acting. There were some parts that got me chuckling a bit. I look at it as something that isn't bad to pass the time, though there are some things that could have been better. There was some good scenery in Hawaii.
I also must note that I didn't know until today that not only was it adapted from the novel of the same name, but there was also an earlier film adaptation from 1969, which starred Ryan O'Neal. I must find a way to watch it now.

122. Vacation (2015)123. Brewster's Millions (1985) 124. Short Circuit (1986)125. Short Circuit 2 (1988) 126. Necessary Roughness (1991)Recent arrival from Netflix. Honestly half the reason I put this in my queue was because I had it confused with The Replacements. For those that don't remember, this was a sports movie starring Scott Bakula as a middle-aged man playing college football on a team of assorted misfits and goofballs. This was ok, a solid time killer. Don't expect anything particularly inspired from it though.

#169 - Paterson
*Prime
A really interesting film. It doesn't follow a lot of the traditional beats you'd expect. Instead, it simply focuses on a week in the life of a New Jersey bus driver. There's something beautiful and simple about it. It helps that Adam Driver is pretty great as the lead. [***]

404. Bride of the Gorilla (1951) – while it's pretty much standard b-movie fare with a costume typical of the era I ended up enjoying this though, it's little over an hour running time helps with films like this.
405. Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie (2013) – I didn't laugh at this just like I didn't laugh at the Reboot, it's hard to tell if they are just not good or I have outgrown them, maybe I need to go back to watch some older J&SB stuff, but the fact that one of the stories villains alter ego is Lipstick Lesbian, might tell me all I need to know. So yeah, nothing hit the mark for me here. (probably should have saved this for my 420th movie)
406. Stuck In The Suburbs (2004) - Disney Channel original movie, another of there films that as there moments, the leads Danielle Panabaker and Brenda Song are enjoyable, though it's weird to me to see Taran Killam as a pin up pop star.
407. A Boy Called Dad (2009) – British drama about a 14 year old who gets a girl pregnant and he ends up going on the run with the baby when the girl he got pregnant now as an abusive boyfriend. Compelling if some elements of the film don't quite come together.

128. Satan’s Slaves *DVD* This was a pretty good “forgotten” 1970’s satanic grindhouse horror. Some wicked gore and tons of nudity. And Satan. And the guy who played Alfred in the 1980’s/1990’s run of Batman. And Satan. Did I mention Satan? If you combined this movie’s execution with that Mark of the Devil movie I watched last weeks themes you’d have the perfect 1970’s Satanic ho-ah Crap, cousin-cousin incest. Why’d they have to go there?

408. Scum (1977) – the made for TV version that was banned by the BBC until 1991. It follows the same basic plot structure as the 1979 movie but obviously the production values are more “TV standard”, some of the actors are the same, and I think there is elements I like about both of them, so it's quite difficult to pick a favourite version.
409. Within Our Gates (1920) – apparently the oldest surviving movie directed by an African American. While the film is at times all over the place, there seems to be a few storylines going on that is not always kept on track properly, a lot of this film still feels so crazy relevant today when it comes to things attitudes and there is some moments that still come across as shocking. The film is strong enough that deserves it's place in cinema history.
410. Cannibal Holocaust (1980) – I think a lot of the cannibal movies from this time period will end up merging into one and might end up forgetting which movie some scenes where actually in. Overall though based on my memory of Cannibal Ferox I think I like this one a bit better.
411. Guest House Paradiso (1999) – Comedy based on the TV series Bottom, I think Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson are hilarious, either working together or on their own. This movie is funny, but it feels like it could have been a lot funnier. 3 future stars of Shaun of The Dead pop up – Simon Pegg (in his film debut), Bill Nighy and Kate Ashfield. Curious how a film like this would translate to a North American audience.

#170 - The Way Back
*Vudu
It certainly hits all of the expected sports movie tropes and you can guess where the story is going. That being said, it's emotionally strong and really gets you invested. Ben Affleck gives one of his better performances in what's ultimately a great film. [****]

Had myself a little double-feature of Steven Seagal movies and they happen to deal with the environment. I also watched both of these on DVD.
106. On Deadly Ground - I remember when I first saw this a few years ago, I had a good laugh at a lot of things, whether it was some ridiculous action bits or even some other bits involving the whole Native American subtext. I know that Steven Seagal directed this, but I really wonder if he wrote some of the script because I felt that some parts just felt out of place. However, Michael Caine played a good villain. John C. McGinley was also good as the main henchman. I don't dislike this movie like a lot of people do. Hell, I think that some of the badness makes this movie watchable in some ways.
107. Fire Down Below - What's funny about this is that while this wasn't a sequel to On Deadly Ground, for a long time I thought that this was connected to that film. Hell, the font for the title on posters/home media artwork was a bit similar. Not to mention that in one scene Seagal wore that one jacket from On Deadly Ground. Anyway, I remember watching that a long time ago. This was a bit different than what people expected from Seagal during that time. It tried to be a bit of a drama with a love story thrown in with Marg Helgenberger's character. Kris Kristofferson played a decent villain, even though he was only in a handful of scenes. Stephen Lang was pretty good as another antagonist of the film. Too bad we didn't get to see what would happen to him (Heard there was an alternate ending involving him). It's not as good as his earlier work, like the Under Siege films, or even Exit Wounds (though I could be biased as DMX was in that movie), but it's not a bad film to watch. In fact, it was pretty underrated. It's still better than On Deadly Ground, even though I don't mind that movie.
I might do a little double feature of Above the Law and Out for Justice soon. Should I throw Hard to Kill in the mix as well?
