490. Muriel's Wedding (1994) – enjoyable Australian comedy/drama with the breakthrough role for Toni Collette (and Rachel Griffiths too), often very funny and bittersweet, with great characters. This was a film I was wanting to see again after many years. Love the use of ABBA in this movie too (Dancing Queen to me will always be a great song).
491. Now You See It... (2005) – been a while since I've watched a Disney Channel original movie, and this stars Aly Michalka, and is probably one of the lesser films which is a shame since she's always likable. I don't want to say he's slumming it but I was surprised to see Frank Langella in this. Still like a lot of their output this is at the very least watchable.

250. Solo: a Star Wars Story *Disney+* Yeah it’s the most pointless and least needed to be told movie of all the Star Wars. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s actually really good, especially considering the tumultuous production. It’s too bad that it’s labelled as a shit movie. The only thing I could do without is the pointless cameo at the end and Social Justice Droid. I didn’t get the hype for Donald Glover either. And Disney just had to “Princess it up” and make Efys Nest a tiny teenage girl.

#270 - The Emperor's New Groove
*Disney+
It's not quite on the level of the all-time Disney animated classics but this is an underrated gem. Not only does it tell a good story with enjoyable characters but it has a nice message and it's legitimately hilarious. [****]

204. The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) 205. Candleshoe (1977)Weird and Obscure Disney+ returns with this 70's Disney family film starring a Taxi Driver-era Jodie Foster as delinquent tomboy orphan Casey Brown who's recruited by a con artist to pose as the long-lost granddaughter of Lady St. Edmund in the hopes of finding the pirate treasure that's supposedly hidden on her estate somewhere. While there Casey discovers that also living at the estate are four local orphans, who have formed a family with the Lady and her Butler, and also that they are going broke, selling farm and baked goods made on the property to pay the bills and taxes. In the end Casey has to choose between her new family or her cut of the con job, she chooses the family, and a giant brawl between them, the con artist and some goons the con artist hires ensues. In the end the treasure is found, the con artist is arrested, the taxes are paid, and Casey decides to stay with the family. Also she may or may not (source: rajah) genuinely be the old ladies biological granddaughter. This started out rough but actually turned into a pretty good family movie as it went. I mean, it hit every cliché imaginable for a movie like this, but what do you expect from 70's Disney? It had heart, some excitement, and Jodie Foster was excellent.

55. Starship Troopers
It was my pick for movie night with my teenage sons so I chose a classic. The boys thought the first half was cheesy and strange (a pretty accurate assessment) but they absolutely loved the second half.

Went and saw Empire Strikes Back at my local theater tonight. They seem to be playing it all over town. Was probably 8 people in the theater. Great to see such an epic movie on the big screen again.

492. Only You (1994) – a romantic comedy with Aunt May and Tony Stark (thanks to comic book movies things like this often cross my mind). My 90s (and beyond to be fair) crush Marisa Tomei stars delivers a good performance as does Robert Downey Jr. (who doesn't appeared until like 45 minutes in) but the film is missing a spark somewhere for me to get fully invested.
493. Pauly Shore Is Dead (2003) – I liked Pauly Shore in movies like California (Encino) Man, less so in movies like Bio-Dome. The film is done in a mockumentary style but still looks cheap, there is some celebrity cameos including Charlie Sheen, Ben Stiller, Sean Penn (some of the names here are more a-list then you expected), Carrot Top, Todd Bridges and The Hilton Sisters. Shore wrote, produced and directed this and I don't know... I mean it's not great, far from it, but the ideas are there, I don't know maybe if he got someone else on board things could have been different.

494. Queen Kong (1976) – a British comedy spoof that I think follows the 1933 King Kong movie better then the 1976 KK movie does. The bawdy jokes are more groanworthy but it's part of the charm just like the effects, Robin Askwith stars who is mostly best known for the aforementioned bawdy comedies is always entertaining. Unbelievably in all this there is a pro-feminism message, how successful that is another matter altogether. Enjoyable.
495. Rock & Rule (1983) – nobody can deny it's got quite the soundtrack (which includes Debbie Harry, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop), this brought to mind other adult orientated animation of the era (such as Heavy Metal and Ralph Bakshi), but that is not a bad thing. Along with Lot of inventive imagery among other things this is something I'd recommend.

Great documentary about Jesco White and his crazy family. Having lived most of my life in rural areas I have known plenty of families like the one in this documentary.

496. Soul Man (1986) – I was trying to think if I'd seen this or not when I was younger or not, then I thought I'd sure as hell remember if I had seen this. This was a bad idea for a comedy even then, let alone watching it through 2020 eyes. There is some good names in the supporting cast including James Earl Jones, Leslie Nielsen and I imagine it's an old shame for someone like Julia Louis Dreyfus (more so than Troll). It's a better movie then Louqeesha (which I've actually seen and at least had the foresight not to use blackface), and I think it does try to say somethings about racism, but it's muddled but it's never funny when it needs to be.
497. Twilight (1998) – I saw this a long time ago, I kind of remember it mostly from Reese Witherspoon in the first scenes, but me saying that does injustice to the film. The cast is full of people you just want to watch act – Gene Hackman, James Garner, John Spencer, and of course Paul Newman. The films central mystery is engaging though I would say I was more interested in the characters then that. Recommended (ignore the remake with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart).

252. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story *Disney+* This is what happens when the only agenda filmmakers have is to make a good movie. I’ve seen this probably seven times since it’s release and it still gives me warm feels. The only bad thing it ever did was gave me hope for Disney’s handling of Star Wars, hope which was crushed a year later. f*** you, mouse.

253. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope *Disney+* When we decided to watch all the Star Wars movies in order I was most interested in getting to this one. Not only because it’s top tier but because I wanted to see which of George Lucas’ ridiculous cuts Disney+ shows. This has the stupid rocks in front of R2-D2 when he’s hiding from the Sand People and quite possibly the worst edit to the noise Obi-Wan Kenobi I’ve heard yet (I seriously have no idea how to describe what I heard) so I’m guessing this is the final cut. They did fix Hans head dodge to make it a little more subtle. With all the bad Disney’s done with Star Wars I really can’t believe they haven’t cashed in the license to print money that is rereleasing the original cuts. The new stuff adds nothing and people who already own the movies five times would probably buy them. I know I would. So the changes are all crap save some graphical upgrades. But everything else is perfect. It has so much more gravity having just watched Revenge of the Sith last weekend. Lots of inconsistencies too but that’s the prequels faults.

#271 - Enola Holmes
*Netflix
This was an absolute blast. The 4th wall breaking gimmick got tiring and I didn't love it. Claflin and Cavill were solid but the real reason this works so well is that Milli Bobby Brown is a ton of fun as the lead. She's a very likable lead and had good chemistry with her co-stars. The mystery element was quite strong as was the action, making this feel like a good first installment for a franchise. [****]

"] 254. ReGOREgitated Sacrifice *DVD* I didn’t like this one nearly as much as the first one. It focused more on Valentines sexual perversions (urine, vomit, abuse, BDSM) than gore, which is what interested me. The filter on the camera was much cleaner and that took a lot away from it. I’m just glad there’s no scat.

150. Lucas (1986) - Streamed this somewhere. For some reason, I just felt like watching it. I remember seeing bits and pieces of it in the past, whether it was on a local channel on a Saturday afternoon in the 1990s or on HBO. But until tonight, I hadn't watched it from start to finish. I will say that I enjoyed this movie a lot. I found Corey Haim to be likable in his role, even though some mannerisms of him reminded me of myself (it seemed like he was an Aspie, or had some other high-functioning autism). I also found myself laughing during some scenes, like the bit in the locker room. Keri Green was also likable as the lead girl. This movie definitely has quite a charm to it. It almost makes me want to watch Angus (1995), and it's been so long since I've seen that one.

498. Under Suspicion (2000) – second Gene Hackman film in a row (and maybe my 4th or 5th film of his I've watched this year). I think Hackman is a legend who I enjoy seeing him in anything even a film like this, that on it's own merits is a decent thriller but is boistered by his performance as well as Morgan Freeman's, but overall I don't think it's a film that is totally going to stick with me.
499. Venus In Furs (1969) – Jesus Franco directed this erotic thriller with supernatural elements, I've watched loads of Italian genre movies this year and this as been my first in a while. The erotic parts are not erotic an seems all proto-50 Shades of Grey. The overall film as a nice dreamy quality about it even if the characters behaviour is confusing at times.

Like the various changes from the original. Aubry Plaza and the actor playing the son are really good.
