The inspiration for this thread actually came about when I made a comment on Brian Zane's 'Best Of Wrestling 2019' video where he praised the rise of women's wrestling in WWE and giving the girls credit for, more often than not, rising to the occassion and I made the mistake of commenting how I agreed with that notion and how the women deserve credit for going from the piss-break match to putting on matches that were Matches Of The Night or Matches Of The Year candidates.
Then, because it's YouTube, some muppet responded with, quote, "They are still the piss break. Women's wrestling is a joke" and I was thinking "How, in 2019/2020, can you be so dismissive of an entire gender doing wrestling?" because, whenever there's a bad men's match, people don't go "Well, all men's wrestling sucks" but if two women have a bad match then people race to type out how "We need to go back to bra and panties matches, guys!"
I don't know how there's still some small segments of wrestling fans who can be such bell-ends about the idea of women wrestling, promotions like All Japan Women in the 1990s sold out massive stadiums thanks to people like Manami Toyota, Bull Nakano, Aja Kong and Akira Hokuto; there's Joshi promotions in Japan currently like STARDOM, which are doing really well for themselves. We've got SHIMMER in North America that acted as a women's revolution while the WWE were still using women for cat-fights and male gaze pandering.
Honestly, if you're a wrestling fan or a wrestler in 2020 and you still dismiss the idea of women being able to wrestle at a high calibur level then the only explanation I can think of is that you're a sexist who's outdated views are probably left back in the 1950s. I mean, there's evidence all around of women wrestlers outshining male wrestlers and it just seems that some fans are just flat out unforgiving towards female wrestlers.

I mean some of it’s sexist, some of it’s left over impressions from what they first or last saw of it, some is just genuinely personal preference, and some I imagine is just not knowing.
I’d say a majority of what I watch and prefer is joshi and that if I was asked to name either my favorites a majority of the list would be women and if I was asked to list who I thought were the top wrestlers men and women it wouldn’t be that much different.

I'm not a fan of women's wrestling, it just doesn't interest me. However, I am glad it is not just a 'piss break' or treated as a joke in modern wrestling.

if two women have a bad match then people race to type out how "We need to go back to bra and panties matches, guys!" Anybody who says this unironically doesn't actually care about match quality or women's wrestling in general. They're just horny pervy f***wits.

Reading youtube comments on women's wrestling it seems everyone wants the return of the attitude era and think the ring work back then was better than it is now. Some alternative universe stuff there

Why're you even reading the Youtube comments to begin with? They're a cesspool.

Old attitudes die hard, some people who grew up being told that women are only good for valets, T&A and coffeebreak matches where half the offence is moolah style hairpulling and slaps will have a hard time accepting it can be more than that.

I don’t dismiss it, I’m just not a huge fan. It’s like anything else, if it’s good, I like it, if not I don’t.
At least the women have evolved to be bland, boring interchangeable characters to match what the guys are.

Intergender wrestling is uncomfortable to watch and sucks
Women wrestlers have the ability to get more from a crowd then men.
I have been a joshi fan since forever

I love women’s wrestling and I’m glad it’s main eventing shows now.
But I still have the opinion that intergender matches shouldn’t happen.
Imagine Becky Lynch beating Bobby Lashley for example? That would be a complete burial in my eyes. And it surprised me that so many people on here wanted to see Ambrose lose to Nia Jax when that feud was teased.... for me, that would’ve completely killed Ambrose and I’m glad he got out of there before they could do that to him.
Chyna was the exception. I could MAYBE buy Ronda Rousey doing it too, due to her reputation.
Besides that? Big nope from me.

How on earth is that stretching credibility but Chyna isn't?

Nia also does not exhibit the kind of toughness chyna did.
Nia is thicc. But i would not want her being punched out by ambrose.
I just cannot enjoy intergender wrestling
Chyna getting stiffed by chono is still nerve wrecking

When the Women's Revolution thing started, I actually was impressed that WWE was putting more effort into featuring women's wrestling as something more than just bathroom break matches and such. Hell, even way before that, I gave props to TNA for showcasing their female talent, and this was when WWE was still having women's matches not be as good as before. Though a lot of their talent at the time were TRYING, like Michelle McCool, Layla, etc.
Then again, I was also curious about the likes of Shimmer, Shine, etc. and even during that time, I had seen some good joshi matches. It's a shame that we still live in a sexist world.

I have morning against it, but it's not my cup of tea. That said a lot of that is probably due to it being a complete joke in the 80s when I grew up.
