So which of these late 80's R&B alubms is better, "Control" by Janet Jackson or Jody Watley self titled solo debut album.
I listened to both of them, and they both great. Both albums ("Control" in it entirety and most of Jody Watley Self titled)are produced by Prince alumns. Might be the one of the reasons they are so good.
We all know the singles, but I think my favorite song from "Control" is "He Doesn't Know I'm Alive" and "Do It To The Beat" from Jody's album is pretty good as well.
I think I would lean towards "Control", but it is not that easy.

Decided to listen to both of them in full just now. Tough decision, because the strong singles from Janet's album are almost undeniable.
...almost.
I actually lean towards preferring Jody's album. Maybe because of the backing music, it's a little bit 'funk'ier on most tracks, but Jody herself also brings it in the vocals, definitely.
