That’s cool, but he’s been trying to get both Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 off the ground for about 7 years now so it’s very much a “believe it when I see it” deal for me

Kev has settled into a spot as a filmmaker where he's going to keep making sequels to his most well known movies as long as someone is willing to give him some money for the budget to keep the lights on. It's a weird time for another Mallrats movie, as malls are dying like crazy and transforming into entertainment pavillions as much as store space, but I think that's kind of his angle anyways.
Funny thing is, I think the one movie he's not going to able to sequelize is Dogma, not because religion is a more hot-button issue than it was in 1999, but because there's no way he could bring back Matt Damon and Ben Affleck again (yeah, I know, they died in the original, but still).

I thought Jeff Anderson wasn't interested in Clerks III? You can't really do a Clerks movie without Randall.

Damon reprised Loki in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, so I suppose it's possible God forgave him and Bartleby and resurrected them. However, the bigger issue with making a sequel to Dogma is the rights don't belong to Smith, they're owned directly by Harvey Weinstein, and he and Smith are no longer on good terms. Smith technically didn't have the rights to include Loki in J&SBR, but took a "Weinstein is too busy trying to stay out of jail to worry about me infringing his rights with a cameo in my little movie" approach to it.

I might be off but Anderson's issues was never really with Smith but the studio and his pay in terms of how much the movie made and all that Hollywood bullshit.

Also I feel like while Mallrats wasn't a bad movie, it doesn't lend itself to a direct sequel as much as Clerks does (which I always felt had a lot more heart to it).

I think he didn’t really want to do it very badly either. He’s had issues in the passed being stuck as Randall, especially since he never really wanted to be an actor in the first place but you’re right as well.

It's a shame he doesn't have the tolerance for the movie business. I really enjoyed the movie he wrote, directed and starred in. I like it better than most of Smith's movies, in fact.

I remember that from Kevin Smith podcasts years ago (though its been a while so memory might be faulty) kinda weird if he hates being stuck as Randall considering the Randall video game he made.

He’s on board now that he got his movie cheque from Clerks 2. Good for him if he did. Since his real life is now the plot of Strike Back, we best watch what we say about him in the Internet

See, I think Mallrats has big potential for a sequel. In fact the original really predated the whole Marvel comic movie boom of the 21st Century. Ironically it kinda came out after the peak of the 90s comic boom period, yet before Marvel had any serious movies.

What happened to Moose Jaws!? I suspect whoever was funding it pulled out after Yoga Hosers made less than $40,000 on a $5 million budget.
