A reminder that this also happened between the two. I actually like how that calls back to the "Kiss My Foot" match between Lawler and Bret Hart

So what was worse, that match or Cena/Cole? This was so much worse. The Lawler match at least had buildup and some fans had wanted to see it. I wanted to see it. The execution sucked on every level almost from bell time onwards but before that was okay. This segment though, just made Cena look like a ludicrous bully even against Cole.

So what was worse, that match or Cena/Cole? I seem to remember this happening as Cole was finally transitioning back into a face, so it was extra odd.

Worst thing he's ever witnessed? I said the same thing about their commentary. Come on, it's not any worse than Vince's commentary. Oh yeah... It is still Vince on commentary.

I'm still baffled how this wasn't just 5 minutes of Lawler embarrassing Cole before beating him easily. That was the logical conclusion.

this match should have been 5 minutes of Jerry beating up Cole, the end. that's what the fans wanted. nobody wanted a 40 minute match between a retired Jerry Lawler and a non-wrestler in Michael Cole, much less one that ends with Cole winning in an utterly baffling fashion. They have a tendency to get these straght squash matches wrong for some reason - Bret vs Vince should have just an ultimate beatdown but it dragged on - Nia vs Alexa at Mania should have been a squash but Alexa controlled a match in a woman 2.5x her size - As mentioned Lawler vs Cole Hell, the one they did get right was Cena vs Taker

Dude, all we needed was a kick to the gut, a piledriver, Swagger being knocked off the apron by Lawler, a punch off the second rope, 1-2-3, we’re good. 2 minutes at most

It doesn’t sound to me like he’s acknowledging “I had a really shitty idea” so much as blaming Cole for not making the impossible dream work.

I will always defend heel Cole. On NXT, he was such a hateful dick, but he was always having fun and that makes all the difference. If they'd gone full-blast with Miz, Cole's fandom woulda been a big part of making it work.

If they'd gone full-blast with Miz, Cole's fandom woulda been a big part of making it work. The main problem with heel Cole was he was being pushed as the “main” play by play man, which would be like if they were having commentator Vince McMahon doing the evil boss thing at the same time he was commentating.

Also, in kayfabe, if Cole was much of a problem that they would gladly have him beaten up by their top guy...f***ing fire the guy. Or at least take him off TV. Do something!

The Cena character was such a hypocrite lol It reminded me too much of that SNL skit "Shazzang" where Will Ferrell voices a genie summoned by kids to stop a bad guy but he takes it entirely too far to the point where everyone is just deeply disturbed.

It would’ve been fitting if Cole actually did vomit in the middle of the ring.
It would completely suit his character at the time.

I remember one of the WWE games actually has Cole and Lawler talk about Cole winning at WM.

I guess technically he didn’t witness The McMahons vs HBK & GOD Maybe it's because I'm a dirty agnostic, but I found this amazing and hilarious both then and today. I remember hoping that they'd gimmick some freaking thunderbolt pyro like the Kane/Taker feuds, or actually wheel out some jobber as 'God'.

He booked it because he knew it would be shit and personally amusing.
One of many reasons I won't be watching again until WWE enters the post-Vince era.
