Foley I think mentioned that on a Legends Roundtable. He said that made it clear that WCW had a show fans wanted to see, but their own arrogance of spoiling the title change basically screwed themselves out of it. He pointed out too that Raw was a taped show from Worcester, Mass while Nitro was live from the Georgia Dome and should have killed Raw in the ratings. What I think really needs to be taken away from the Monday Night War is how much of WCW's death was self inflicted. WWE's turnaround with the rise of Austin and Rock and Mr. McMahon as the evil owner contributed certainly, but WCW's implosion is what needs to be most studied. Edit: Just thinking about this now, but is this the only time that the WWE and WCW world titles changed hands the same show? I know it's not the same night, but I don't recall any other time where both titles changed hands on the same week the shows aired. And was it already planned for WCW, oe was it a reaction to the TAW taping? I think it was always the plan. From what I've heard, Hogan was supposed to be the first win over Goldberg, but he knew how unpopular he was in the locker room, so they went with the more popular Nash to transition it back to Hogan to reform the NWO.

Everybody remembers Mankind winning the gold... Nobody remembers the cutaways to Dennis Knight locked in a dungeon or Terri Runnels having a miscarriage. Or Shawn Michaels being murdered: Christ, what happened?

You are correct, this was the only day in the Monday Night Wars that both companies aired a world title change. Which is a small miracle, seeing how the WCW title was hot-potatoed in the Russo Era.

Or Shawn Michaels being murdered: Christ, what happened? Shawn had reunited with DX but they were still pissed at him for joining the corporation so they set him up to get jumped in the parking lot. Right before the commercial break, you see Shawn and Bossman calls out for him. When you come back from the break, this is on your screen. It legit looked like he was murdered.

Yeah and Trips and X-Pac walk off kinda laughing right after they leave Shawn, but from what I recall they never followed up on it.
