Discuss.
One of the few times in wrestling that I'm so freakin' happy a match took place, in a perfect time and place. That's kind of wrestling I want to see every time when I watch. Awesome spots: ' outside DDT and crossbody, especially that ending was so good, so I don't really mourn for a rematch! Lots of feel to it, ma'an. Le champion continues his amazing streak of matches and adding more to mystique that's Chris Jericho. It's also good to see "big match" Hiroshi Tanahashi in full effect.

Really damn good, and like Jericho said, this was probably his best NJPW match.
I love that the interview he did after, Jericho put him over huge, saying Tanahashi beat him in every way but the actual finish, that he thinks Tanahashi dislocated his jaw and that the Dragon Screw had his knee swelling, he just had to play it cool in the ring and not show it.

Wonderful match that doubles as a reminder of the power that comes out of basic pro-wrestling dynamics. My mind went back to that Aleister Black/Velveteen Dream bout where the match outline was so good, it transcended the very solid in-ring work.
Someone in the WK thread said that it was like seeing two legendary bands on one tour, playing their greatest hits. I really got that. You could tell there was some early communication issues at the start, but everything came together by the end to create magic.
Also, it takes two to tango, but goddamn if Tana isn’t the most talented man I’ve ever seen in a ring. Okada may be getting all these records/accolades, but Tanahashi is the GOAT.

Really good match. A legend showcase in guys who are past their prime but their ring generalship is so damn good they can still pull off moves and sequences that they really shouldn't. Just something great in seeing legends do their thing and have this type of chemistry without being in the ring before

Maaaan, I (despite wanting aew/njpw to play nice) was convinced Chris was full on winning so I tried to clinch in a bet with my friend (who’s good at predicting njpw finishes) in order to get him to see Cats! But let’s just say his terms would have put me in possible physical bodily harm hahaha
Anyway, really enjoyed the match. Thought it was better than it had any right to be. And felt like Chris’ best NJPW match. It was awesome to see two vets who are so good at leading younger guys in the ring, wrestle and take care of one another. There’s a lot of love and mutual respect there, you can tell.

Wanted 5 to 10 more minutes to be honest. Felt like Bird vs Magic, Gretzky vs Lemieux showtime in there,

Forgot to say this but this match was kind of spoiled by fans I was with basically saying it was shit and Jericho was shit and...I don't get it. Like I wasn't blown away by it but it felt super fun, the crowd was HOT and showcased the fact, in my mind, if you know a thing about wrestling and Tanahashi isn't on your top 10 of all time...you're crazy, you just are.
Also, if Jericho now is shit, man I'd hate to see someone whose actually considered super shit.

Very disappointed that the forbidden portal will remain closed for now, but that was a heck of a match.

There's a weird mix where people around me seem to think Jericho's passed it for some reason and I'd be in that group after the Okada match (Which wasn't great because they felt mismatched) if it wasn't for literally everything else he did the rest of 2019. There's also a weird thing some fans have against AEW which is neither here nor there and nothing really to do with Jericho at all.

People who watched that match with me, and many more people on the net were aghast by his appearance and couldn't get beyond it. It was a good match though. Tanahashi always got those working boots on and was able to mesh well with jericho's current style

I just have a hard time taking them seriously.

Jericho vs. Omega is still my personal favorite just because of how much that match felt like a war, but this one was extremely close and probably his best storytelling one. But I don’t think Jericho’s had a truly bad NJPW match since his return.

Tanahashi always got those working boots on and was able to mesh well with jericho's current style I get that. Even in the English commentary they tried to bolster up Jerichos “aesthetic” as to that of a “fighter” when comparing him and Tanas shape (who looked RIPPED). If Jerichos comfy at that weight/size, *shrug*, watcha gonna do. But i can see it being visually jarring and influential to those who remember what Jericho looked like in the past, or hell, just a couple years ago.

It was excellent. The timing was perfect, and they played the dynamic exactly as they should have. Two guys who have been killing it for decades, two of the biggest stars within their own spheres, both leading the charge for a new generation, and proving just how iconic guys of their body type could be. Nobody will dispute that they're past their prime, but it's just that age-old tale of legends being able to turn back the clock when they need to, and recapture what made them so special in days gone by.

Working smarter not harder.
Outside of the ddt not really many big bumps.
Both guys worked it with the greatest hits and small simple spots to build the finish

I think the beer gut only adds to the "legend rock n' roller hogan" status of his. He's vicious now. Many times the older guys are the cooler ones in movies too. Same thing with L.A. Park. / AND Jericho actually FLEW when doing that lionsault in this match. Moves weren't meaningless, I watched every second of it...

There's no two ways about it, Jericho (physically) looks like a bag of sh*t now. But, I also think he knows that and plays up to it and that's what makes him all the more scary these days. He looks like a total psycho. I've said it so many times, but the man just seems to be cementing his claim for being the best ever with each passing week now and the fact that he's even managed to make his failing physique part of his character now is just yet more proof in my eyes.
The match was brilliant too.

Jericho's 4 years older than me, to the day, and I wish I could be in that kind of shape now, tbh.

If he was just an average 50 year old on the beach no one would bat an eyelid. I still think it suits the character now though.
