It's been blowing up my Facebook feed all day, but yeah, ring announcer, Booker, coach, promoter, and all around good dude Jon Ian passed away last night, unexpectedly. Dude was a behind the scenes and on screen stalwart of the SoCal independent scene for over 20 years, and a lot of guys wouldn't have gotten their starts or breaks without his involvement.
RIP to an absolutely great dude.

That's unfortunate. I don't know a ton about the SoCal scene, but I'm positive I've seen the name get dropped from time to time. A pedigree like that, I can certainly understand why.

I don't believe I'd be exaggerating whatsoever when I say that, if it wasn't for what this man brought to the table in SoCal from the early 2000's on, the modern wrestling landscape would look a LOT different. Like, a LOT. In fact, I would be surprised if he DOESN'T get a mention on Dynamite or BTE this week.

There's a lot of Californian wrestlers in the company, between Excalibur, SCU, Bucks, etc, so odds are, most of them have some familiarity with him.

He was PWG ring announcer for over ten years, worked for the original NJPW Us dojo, Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, etc. I'm pretty sure he's one of the first non wrestlers to get superkicked by The Bucks. But to get off that tangent, every time I worked ring crew for a CWFH show, he was always the first face I saw(probably because we were using his ring, lol). Always a nice guy, but once he got to know you was just fantastic. And hilarious. One time we were running behind, and Jon just looks at us and says "guys we gotta hurry up! If you don't....*grabs a just arriving Peter Avalon and starts spanking him* THAT'S GONNA BE YOU!!!!"

Going to miss him. Was always a light of positive energy.
Was very influential in PWG, as well as working behind the scenes in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. His Mach 1 Wrestling show got me back into wrestling every Friday Night. Glad to say that I knew him.

f***. This sucks. I remember helping him pass out flyers for one of his M1W shows in 2012. His school shows in fall 2009 were awesome, and you could tell he loved doing this.

One more thing, that I think I saw from Adam Pearce or someone(sorry, my timeline was like 85% posts about Jon today)...
I'm sure the first thing Jon did when he got past the Pearly Gates was find Percy Pringle, gave him a huge hug, then called him an old fat bastard.
Seriously, those two f***ing with each other was legendary.

So many other companies came up in the same area at the same time, but they were the most consistent. Shit, if you watch any 07-14 PWG show, at least half the local talent came outta Mach 1.

Wow. I was just thinking about him this weekend and wondering how he was doing after his massive stroke. I know there were fundraisers for him a couple of years ago and I used to see information about him improving. Prayers to his family and those who knew him.
In addition to his involvement in wrestling he was also assistant coach for Chapman University's Men's Basketball team.
