So this is a general discussion of Step By Step, and thoughts I have had about it.
First of all, not really about the show, but how and when did Suzanne Summers and ABC make up. After she left Three's Company, ABC did everything they could to sabotage her career. So you would never work for ABC again. Maybe Miller - Boyette were able to ment those fences.
Second question, what was the plan with having Patrick Duffy be a lead in the sitcom, to my knowledge he had no comedy background. Was the plan early on, to have Suzanne carry the show comedic and hope for the best with Duffy. Many will say it is much easier from comedy to drama, than the other way around. Easier to go from a show like I Dream Of Jeannie to Dallas, than to go from Dallas to Step By Step.
Speaking of, there was one episode when we meet Cody's dad, Frank's brother, dude it is so obvious they should have gotten Larry Hagman to play him Was he to sick at the time? And if we ever meet Frank's first wife, no doubt in my mind she would be played by Victoria Principal. The fact we never saw her, makes it easier for me to make that my head canon.
And what are your feelings on the Dana x Rich pairing. I have mixed feelings, Rich made Dana a more likable and tolerable character, but the same thing I thought when she was the bitter feminist character. Likability and funny don't always go hand and hand.

You know, I never realized before that the oldest daughter from Step by Step was also the girl from My Two Dads.

Alright, here's some shit I didn't realize until I woke up in a Manhattan hotel room one cold December 2017 morning.
You ready?
The title is a pun.
"Step by step" as in taking things step-by-step, as the song goes, "day by day."
HOWEVER.
They're all step-siblings.
And they're all "By" each other because they live together now.
"Step-By-Step!"
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Here's the best analogy ever:
Al-Dean Ambrose Dana-Seth Rollins Karen-Roman Reigns
They tried to push Karen as the hot one, but we all knew who the real talent was.

I haven't found any interviews where she talks about Step by Step in any detail. My assumption is that it had been about 12 years since she worked on Three's Company and the people at ABC who made her life hell were gone by 1991. The current Disney Chairman Bob Iger was head of ABC Entertainment at that time. Maybe he smoothed things over.
Some people didn't like the addition of Rich already, but James Marsden is a funny guy so I'm fine with it.
Remember Carol's sister and mother in the first season? I always found those episodes awkward since they were written out after 1 season and never mentioned again. But the mother played by Peggy Rea would move onto another ABC sitcom, Grace Under Fire.

When we lived in Germany my aunt who lived in Florida would record popular shows for me. Family Matters, Fresh Prince, and Step By Step. I used to be obsessed with Step by Step. One of my favorite shows from that era of my childhood.
Looking back on it in hindsight the TGIF slot always displayed fun and entertaining shows.

I seem to remember Cody overshadowing the cast in the same way Urkel did in Family Matters.

I seem to remember Cody overshadowing the cast in the same way Urkel did in Family Matters. Cody was the man! Loved him. One night USA or TNT or something played Kickboxer 2, 3, and 4 in a row (all of which starred Sasha Mitchell, who also played Cody), and I squeezed them all onto a VHS tape and watched the shit out of it.

I thought that My Two Dads was an underrated show. My Two Dads was such a weird show. It only went three seasons and was not a big hit when it originally aired, yet it managed to get one of the most lucrative syndication deals in history, reruns were aired on USA Network well into the new millennium, and is now an iconic part of 80's pop culture.

It was so 90's. And ripped off popular things from the 90's.
Two characters that were literally Bevis and Butt-Head.
JT goes to see Wayne's World at the theater, so he decides to rip it off with his own show, "JT's World". Even having "Party Time! Excellent!" as the intro theme.
That walks the fine line between parody and plagiarism.

It's kinda... interesting that out of all of them the toyboy girl probably ended up the most successful post-show with her voice work.

But the mother played by Peggy Rea would move onto another ABC sitcom, Grace Under Fire. As for someone who has fondness for 1 season and done characters for some reason, I have a soft spot for the Facts Of Life "Lost Girls", or fondness for Kirk and Lestle from Newhart, Even I knew these just didn't fit, and the show as better without them.
