I don't know why it took me so long to notice this, but the Captain Planet and The Planateers theme song is really similar to "Step By Step" by The New Kids On The Block with the same bass line, and synth and basically just a tempo change.
Someone even made a video comparing the two songs.

This comparison helped me get me back into that band, never again will I be swayed by the gospel of Bill Hicks!

Fortunately they eventually made something more unique in honor of the Mega Mac Daddy of Ecology.

I'll be the one to say that's the END theme. Not the opening, which was totally different.
Kind of like how most of us remember "Run With Us" from The Raccoons.

Well that's nothing new, some of the cartoon themes did sound like popular songs, Chip N Dale sounded like the MacGyver theme:
And The Ducktales theme sounded like Footloose:

Yeah, that's the end theme, and a LOT of people mistake it for the intro theme because, honestly, it's just catchier and more memorable than the actual intro, which was basically just a montage with a narrator explaining the show's plot:
