These are the 3 Albums often cited as Pantera’s best and at one point in time all 3 have been my favourite. They all have their good points and bad but which is best?
Cowboys:
Pros: Possibly not a bad track on it Cons: The Bruce Dickinson imitation. As somebody who listened to the other 2 albums first
Vulgar:
Pros: Again is their a bad track on it? Possibly their best riffs as well. Songs are at their tightest too. Cons: Over familiarity on songs like Walk & This Love maybe
Driven:
Pros: I love the sound and how heavy it is Cons: A few duffers and it’s not that consistent
I voted Cowboys by the way. Even my negative was nit picky.

Vulgar Display of Power is tough to beat. Plus such a bad ass cover in a very minimalist way.

I don’t even like Pantera much and I still think VDOP is a stone cold classic. Riffs for days, and the songs don’t overstay their welcome.

Vulgar Display of Power and Great Southern Trendkill are the only two Pantera albums that hold up (In my opinion). Far Beyond Driven is okay, but it's not something I can just sit down and listen to whenever. Cowboys From Hell doesn't hold up at all, in my opinion.

I went with Cowboys only because it has Cemetery Gates, and that’s my #1 for Pantera

Racist piece of shit.

I’m not surprised Reinventing the Steel isn’t even part of the conversation. It’s probably one of the better mainstream rock albums from 2000. And that’s not a good thing. It just demonstrates what a horrid time the early 2000s were for mainstream rock.

Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican. Pantera before Pantera.
For those who don't know, Phil auditioned for this band back in the day, then totally bit their sound. I'm not even ragging on him or anything, but if you check out Exhorder you'll be shocked by the Pantera-ness.

"Cowboys From Hell" for me personally. Not taking anything away from "Vulgar Display Of Power" or "Far Beyond Drive". "Cowboys From Hell" is better musicianship wise and I love the vocals of Phil on that album as well.
"Great Southern Trendkill" is amazing for "10's", "Floods", and both parts of "Suicide Note".

Of those three Far Beyond Driven, but I’m a Great Southern Trendkill guy

Vulgar. The others are good but not what I'd call essential.

Glad to see that I'm not the only fan of Great Southern Trendkill. If I'm being honest, it's the only Pantera album I still listen to. Suicide Note Pt. II is a jam and Floods has one of my favorite guitar solos of all-time.

Far Beyond Driven. Been in in my van the last 2 days.. Being old ya got to see a lot of the classic bands. Lucky enough to see them 5 times live.
I still like DOWN and Christ Inversion better then Pantera as it goes with Phil's millions of other projects but Pantera was amazing.

Sadly I only saw Pantera once. ANd Phil was wasted that show so it sucked.

All three were big parts of my teenage years, but I feel like CFH probably holds up the best out of the three. I'm a Trendkill guy though, "10's" and "Floods" are still great songs.

NOLA alone blows away anything in Pantera's discography.

Despite the fact, that it has "Walk", Vulgar easily wins this.
Far Beyond Driven is the weakest of the 3.
