I often talk about how Naruto and Bleach both sort of fell off during or right after their war arc and they didn't execute it as good as they should have
However, One Piece does not have that problem. The Marineford war arc is one of the better examples of how to pull this off and convincingly shift the balance of the whole story
Ace getting killed nearly broke Luffy and made him change as a character. Whitebeard getting killed shifted the balance of power with his territory being taken over and Blackbeard now taking on two fruits
A lot i'm skipping over but this is really one of the arcs you can say just had a big impact on the story and how things flowed from there

I liked the manga version quite a bit... Though the anime version and the screaming "ACE" every 2 seconds is kinda a drag (that and it seems he is running 50 miles in the anime, lol). I suppose if you distill it back down its still a good, the emotional bits are all still there and properly done. I also sorta wished the Warlords did a little bit more, but there was so much going on with like 1000 new characters and powers flying about I guess that is okay (Oda does a surprisingly good job at laying out powers and characters with a million of them running about). I do find it odd how Blackbeard has been mostly lurking in the background doing stuff mostly unseen by the reader/viewer in all of the content I am caught up through since the two fruit thing was HUGE during this so there was a whole BIG BADDY feel that has sorta moved to the back burner.
Personally though, I preferred Impel Down, mostly cause there was so much more Ivankov in it and that character was great. And while the Marineford bit was good, and the immediate aftermath was great (I think the anime did a good job here cause we get a bit more of the non-Luffy crew training, and I always love those bits) all the way through Fishman Island... I didn't care for Punk Hazard at all (not a huge fan of the Wano characters), though I suppose it sorta lays out the power plays that are going on in the New World.

Pretty great war arc but you could say one piece die fall down slight afterwards with the new designs being not as good for most. The ultra explosion of haki and Luffy weird ass transformations and dragging series and some characters falling of relevance. But even then it keeps a MUCH better series than Bleach and Naruto managed. And they still have the same quality of drama ,humor and great fun side characters. Some of then developing mostly as post arc characters like Law.
The war itself too was great for introducing new and old fun characters and building the world.Probably in the Top 3 Sagas of One Piece
Also peak One Piece is Enies Lobby . I doubt any arc will reach it

The recent story with Gol D Roger does give off the feeling we are much closer to the end than the beginning or still in middle of the story Blackbeard taking a big backseat is weird tho

Some think it may have to do with Arabasta and Pluton....

Yeah, if one can remember where you stopped the manga is a pretty good page turner and you can burn through them fast.
It helps me that my local library has them all, so its free! Woo!

But the feel of the paper and turning the page... Or when you can briefly see a page ahead and then your like "!!! How's that gonna happen!"
But that does sound like a good deal. Haha.

Depends on do you remember where you stopped at? I saw a clip of Sanji crying on a beach and I think about a wedding or something. Sounds like the Sanji Retrieval Arc Assuming you didn't watch the whole thing and don't mind reading that arc from the beginning, start at 852. That would put you about 100 chapters behind the story where it is at now
