125.nypl.org/125/topcheckoutsNever heard of The Snowy Days yet its number 1. Also never remember reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Maybe it was read to me when young but alas. I do have a cute pair of socks based on them.

Love this, yeah I'm surprised The Snowy Days is number one as well. It's a classic children's book but I don't see it circulate much at the library I work at.

It's been in print and circulating at the library since 1962 according to the article, so that helps. Though the other children's books on the list are of similar vintage. The really stunning thing is that Harry Potter is at #9 despite only being published in 1998. Really highlights what a pop culture colossus it is.

Now I can't stop reading about Anne Carroll Moore. What a complicated legacy that's both not talked about as much as it should be with such a positive impact on countless lives, but also - wow some of her takes an opinions on children's literature and highly questionable for a librarian.

I'm surprised The Giving Tree didn't make the list.

I’m pretty sure I took out Peter Puck and the Stolen Stanley Cup at least 400,000 times as a kid. From the school library.

I tried to read Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller, but it was out because the guy who rented it never gave it back.
