This past week I bought The Shield, a 2000s cop drama that aired on FX. I caught it during its original run, and always held it in high regard.
But like my other favorite cop show Homicide, The Shield seems to have been largely forgotten about. While Homicide was slower and more contemplative, The Shield was in your face and visceral. I had a friend that worked five years LAPD, and he said the show was as close to the reality of LA as television could get.
Anyone else here familiar with the show? It was on along with Nip/Tuck, and at the time really made FX as a channel.

One of my favorite shows of all time. So many great actors playing, for the most part, utterly horrible people. Walton Goggins is the MVP of the whole show in my opinion.

Great show with tons of memorable characters. It was definitely one of my favorites and was appointment television for me during the whole run of the show. I still remember my reaction to the end of the first episode.

Loved this show so much. I really should settle in for a re-watch at some point.

One of the few cop dramas I enjoyed. Watched the first episode just cause Chilkis was the lead and I was hooked. Need to do a re-watch. I got every season on DVD.
Last year re-watched the last season and they did a decent job of wrapping up most of the loose ends.

Even better than The Wire imo. Season 5 with Forrest Whitaker was amazing and it had a perfect ending to the series.

One of my favorite shows of all-time. Did a complete rewatch in 2018, still holes up. And the last few episodes are some of the tensest Tv I’ve ever seen.

An excellent show. Every so often I find myself watching Seasons 5, 6, and 7 all over again. That's when the show enters into amazing territory with every episode being absolutely special with character development, revelations, and betrayals. I ultimately believe what helped put it into that realm was the casting of Forrest Whitaker for Season 5.
God knows how many times I've watched those specific seasons. But it's shocking that I never picked up on obvious foreshadowing moments throughout the seasons either.
One thing I never thought about was essentially how Vic still screwed over Lem with his confession. If Lem survived and ended up going to prison, he would've had more time added to his sentence, especially since Vic implicated him via the crimes he was apart of. I would love to see a spin-off with Vic after his time with ICE is completed or even during his time with them.
On the last season of Sons of Anarchy it's rumored that the character Gemma was talking to was Vic as a truck driving. Hinting at his past life when he mentioned that he had four kids the last time he counted. Obviously Vic had Matthew, Cassidy, Megan, and Lee(the child he had with Sofer).

One thing that always made me curious about Vic's confession. Why didn't he just leave Ronnie out of everything? He could've shifted all of the crimes on himself and left Ronnie unscathed. He easily could've said "I planned all of the crimes without the knowledge of my team". Definitely goes to show that Vic was and is a horrible person.

Like a lot of other posters, I came into the show at season 5. I'll always remember the first time I heard Johnny Cash's Hurt, it was for a promo for the show.
In previous seasons, they had Glenn Close, but no one could top Forest Whitaker. Such an amazing performance.
One of my all time favorite moments is in season one, where the prostitute serial killer analyzes and tears down Detective Wagenbach, and afterwards Wagenbach breaks down in his car and starts crying.

I remember the episode where Dutch strangled a stray cat to death. Remember taking a week from watching the show afterwards. "The Shield" was very much ahead of its time and unapologetic.

Watched since episode 1. Still remember the episode where Aceveda gets jumped and raped. Weird if I remember instead if feeling bad for him, when he finally admits to his wife what happened she gets mad and at HIM! Damn good show.

I just started season 2, and I know that's coming up soon. I'm dreading it. His wife's response is a classic example of this show and it going in unpredictable directions.

Right up there with TV’s great achievements, and certainly the best of any early offering on basic cable. Along with The Sopranos is blazed the trail for the current standard of long form storytelling, and it still holds up today.

Season 5 with Forrest Whitaker was amazing... to this day every time my dad sees Forest Whitaker in something he goes "he's that rat from The Sheild" and instinctively believes every character he plays must be an asshole and/or the bad guy until proven (or convinced after rather lengthy explanation) otherwise
