Em dropped an album out of nowhere a few hours ago called Music to be Murdered By. I’m trying to listen to it now but I’m at work, so I’m only catching snippets. Read so far that it’s pretty good. Got some Royce tracks and an Anderson.Paak track, someone said three Dre tracks. Can’t wait to have a chance to really listen.
Thoughts?

It was a nice surprise to see this on Spotify this morning. I never expected to hear a mention of Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan on an Eminem track, but here we are. He referenced Andre the Giant on a track years back, maybe Eminem's next career goal is seeing how many members of the Heenan Family he can reference in tracks prior to retirement?
Seriously though, my first impressions are strong. It'll take more listens before I set this in stone, but I may like this more than Kamikaze. As you'd expect from the album title, He doesn't hold back at all on this one when it comes to highly dark lyrical content. This might be some of the darkest imagery created by his songs since Relapse. I'd imagine "Darkness" is a song that's going to garner plenty of attention. Some of the lyrics in "Unaccomadating" shocked me also.

I get the rationale here during the streaming era, but I dislike the impromptu "here's an album" releases.
Music revenue is def not dependent on physical media sales anymore and I know now some albums don't even get physical releases in brick and mortor stores 'til months after they hit Spotify/Apple/YouTube/Bandcamp, but mostly gone are the anticipation-building 6-8 week lead cycles with music video debut, cover art leak, press review loop and print ads in the Source.
Also, Tuesday releases gave us fans much more time to take in a record as I feel midnight on Friday releases are old news by Monday in the current news climate. (Plus as a Thursday night radio host, I'm literally the last DJ who can premiere a 'brand' new album each week!)

I couldn’t finish “Darkness”. Just kinda got a groan from me. Same with “Godzilla”. There’s flashes, aspects I like, lyrics, Ems brilliance can’t be denied but so much of it sounds like old hat.
I liked a lot of Kamikaze, so maybe I’ll try to listen to more later.

It's the most I've enjoyed a first listen of an Eminem album since 'The Eminem Show.'
Yes, there's some super groan-inducting cringe-worthy moments, but that's literally every Eminem album and this one has the best hit-to-miss ratio he's had in a decade.
The most important thing is that his flow is finally back and the strongest it's been in forever. He's not doing that trampling-all-over-the-beat flow on this one or trying to shove every word he's ever learned into his dad jokes like sardines into a can. He sound comfortable and energized over the beats for the first time in over a decade.
I was surprised to hear him sincerely (seriously) apologize for the shots he took at Tyler and Earl on the last album, which is coincidentally titled "No Regrets." Also, structuring the album around the Hitchcock interludes was a really cool refreshing touch.
If anyone is curious about giving the best tracks a listen, "No Regrets," "I Will" and "Lock It Up" are my favs.

I liked “Lock it Up”. “Stepdad” has a nice sound to it. Yah Yah’s fun. Liked “Marsh” and “Farewell” spoke to me lol..nothing too terrible, nothing too memorable. Got a lot of chuckles from me.

I'll check it out, but the last time he randomly released an album (maybe it was about 2 years ago?) I listened to it once, was very indifferent to it, and never listened to it again. So it's kind of hard to be excited about it.

My boss played the album throughout the day yesterday, and for me not being a big fan of Eminem, I was actually impressed by the songs, lyrics, and overall flow of the songs.

I love Em, but his last good album was LP2. Still will give it a listen.

Listened to it a few times. Definitely doesn't have the raw attack power of Kamikaze, but I liked it. When Godzilla is on I just can't stop hearing Iggy Azalea's Fancy, though.

Loved just about every song. Jesus, Darkness is rough to listen to, though.
Yah Yah is by far my favorite song, though. It samples Woo hah!! Got You All In Check; how can you not love it?

I’m the biggest stan out there but it it’s not doing anything for me. Maybe I’m depressed or something but all the f***ing songs sound the same to me.

Gotta say I dig it. It gives me some MMLP vibes, too, brought me back to high school a bit.
My wife after listening to the first song: “Yeah it was pretty good, but is he STILL bitter over Revival?” 🤣

The first half wasnt bad, but the second half (basically, everything after Stepdad) didnt do much for me. You could have easily trimmed off those last 7 tracks, and it would have been much better IMO.

My wife after listening to the first song: “Yeah it was pretty good, but is he STILL bitter over Revival?” 🤣 It’s like he’s bitter with where he’s at, which is ironically still being considered one of the GOAT, just not as relevant..? I dunno. It’s like he’s perpetually competing with the guy he used to be, and the way people used to receive his work. But he’s different! He’s old, he’s happy. And I think it makes him restless? I dunno.

It was a nice surprise. There are definitely some good songs that I've been listening to and will be adding to my long term playlist.
It's not his best, but I think it's his best overall effort in a while.

I'm in the same boat, I'm a huge Em fanatic and Kamikaze's surprise drop had me so hyped(and I loved that record) but so far this one I've been listening to it on YouTube before buying it and I'm just not into it. I think it doesn't help that I'm not really on a hip hop kick right now.
