The news reminded me of the morning Sean Taylor died. He was like a freak, built like a tank. It seemed like he would never die, much less in his mid-20s. It was so abrupt and senseless. I refused to believe it at the time, and it's weird to get that way about someone you never met. I imagine that is how it was a lot of people reacted to Kobe. This like superhuman guy that seemed like he wasn't gonna be one of those old rickety NBA legends. He was gonna be this slim, almost childlike dude into his 60s. If you told me Doc Gooden was gonna outlive Kobe, I'd never believe you. But also the way it was broke left everyone scrambling because Twitter was down for a couple minutes after and TMZ was down. The news broke the internet. It's been a while since you had a question and couldn't get to the source because literally everyone was trying to get to it because the nature of the news was so unbelievable. I was on the phone with one my friends when she told me and me and her both searched the internet for like 20 mins to confirm the news. Once Woj confirmed it my stomach turned and when I heard his kids was possibly on board that almost broke me. It’s just so sad with kids losing their lives as well. When you can break grown men you know shit is bad because everyone crying on the court was crazy It's been many years since huge news broke from one source which then got overloaded to the point where Twitter, Reddit, FB, everybody was just guessing. Multiple large news sites issued statements saying they were aware of reports but couldn't confirm. The whole thing was a seriesof gut punches. That he was dead, that numerous others were dead, that one of them was his daughter, and then seeing so many dudes lose it on TV. I couldn't stand Kobe, but after all that, you really do just feel gutted.

Kobe was my favorite player ever so him dying hurts and in this situation with this type of news it just hurts even more It has been a long time since the internet was shut down like that and it just made it surreal when it was confirmed he died

This is significant. Disney NEVER does tributes like this, aside from the flag at Town Square being at half mast for national mourning. The world outside just does not get in.
Until now. It’s... stunning really.

Great interview with a witness who's also a sound engineer (and going by his hat, he formerly worked with TWA at some point). He paints a very vivid picture. From his description, the helicopter hit the mountain rotors first, so the accident probably happened very quickly and the passengers likely didn't see it coming. It's still horrible, but I'm glad they likely didn't suffer.
It felt weird to like this, even if the "like" is coming from a place of being thankful they may not have known and suffered. The thing that got me yesterday was thinking how scared the young girls must have been, so to know there's a chance they weren't makes me feel a little better. You know, if one can feel such a way about such a thing.

f***ing time and place, lady. Like, ok...Kobe has a huge blemish on his record. But his wife, kids, parents, and friends are tearing the walls apart right now. You wanna talk about his life good and bad, you f***ing do it later. Some f***ing people. Unbelievable. Some people are scumbags plain and simple

I can only remember a couple of times Jimmy Kimmel hasn't done a regular show over the fifteen odd years I've been watching him-- for tragedies or deaths of people close to him. Tonight, they had no audience and Jimmy did a short monologue talking about Kobe, who'd been on the show 15 times over the years, and the rest of the show was replays of those interviews. They aired the last time Jimmy interviewed Kobe first and it was painful to watch them talk about Gianna. Much too young.

We all know Kobe was far from a saint during his career but now is not the time talk about that.

Fallon also started his show telling a story about going to buy beer for a party when Kobe was 17 and Jimmy was 21 out in LA.

Kobe was the guy that I likened the most to my favorite player growing up, MJ. RIP to all those that perished in this crash and their family/friends. My memory of Kobe the player will be a guy that had his knee ligaments destroyed yet he hobbled to the free throw line and calmly drained two free throws with seconds lift in a game to send it to OT... the Lakers ended up winning the game. Gianna was going to carry on his legacy on the court and you could tell he was a great father to her and his other kids. His six month old will never get to know him. It's just sad all around.

You know, if one can feel such a way about such a thing. Yeah, you have to imagine it was mercifully quick. Horrible stuff. He's my age; I followed his career decently close early on as his first year in the NBA was my freshman year in college. One of my best friends from high school was a huge Lakers fan so he was ecstatic when they started winning again. To lose their daughter too, I can't imagine what his wife is going through.

Eh, Jerry West who is the model for the logo would probably be fine with it. I don't think it's really deifying him. It's just a silhouette.

I think people are too affected by their grief right now to think rationally about this. That rape allegation won't be whitewashed away, and I think it'd be a PR nightmare for the NBA to put Kobe as their new logo once the mourning period is over and people start using their brains more instead of their hearts again.

West was the man who brought Kobe to LA and believed in him before anyone else in the NBA did. Kobe loved Jerry for the same reason. Not only would Jerry West be ok with it, he might champion the idea in all honesty.

What would the new logo be? Somebody not passing the ball or taking fifty shots? 😁
It's a logo. A silhouette. I always forget it's West until somebody refers to him as "The Logo" or "Mr. Logo." I don't see them changing it. If anything, it should have become Jordan when he retired. The SECOND time.
If we're changing logos, can we make somebody else the MLB logo instead of Harmon Killebrew (allegedly)? Maybe Jackie or Roberto?
