Sorry but this angle is awful, wrestling isn’t really a medium that tends to use the nuance and subtlety needed to tackle these sorts of issues. Trying to tackle substance abuse issues in wrestling very rarely comes across as anything other than tacky. Especially in this case where it’s been treated as a joke.
Then you have fans giving him booze and cheering it on which looks like it is enabling his behaviour.
It was bad when it was tried with hawk in the 90s and it is bad now.
This is one of the few things about AEW that I don’t like and I’m one of the few that don’t mind the dark order and nightmare collective.
I think one of the only times I can recall this sort of issue was done well was Lawler and Roberts and that’s only going off a few clips I’ve seen so that one might not have been good overall either. and CM Punk and Jerichos fued as well managed to touch on similar issues without being tacky.

But this is how it is in real life.People treat guys that have alcoholism as fun loving guys just having their time.
They actually have done a great job on Page's depression and alcoholism and the bits of comedy, they have used nuance and subtlety.Probably the first good angle about this kind of subject I saw.

I don't think it's an alcoholic angle anyway, he's not being portrayed as an incompetent drunk or anything, just that he's a polar opposite to the 'clean living' Kenny Omega, which is obviously becoming a personality clash.

I'm not against Page drinking more than a couple bottles. He's crazy funny drunk!

I know after the Scott Hall angle I thought, "Man, I can't wait to see something similar to this again!"

At first I thought they were going the Hall/Hawk route but now I think he’s just turning into James Storm

I’m 2 years and 2 months sober this February 2nd after being neck deep in alcoholism in my late 20s including gaining about 40 lbs, day drinking, legitimately endangering my life on multiple occasions and I could not disagree with you more.
I think it’s being handled in such a real, humorous at times, dramatic at times way. Cause that’s life. It’s not Black & White. And anytime it seems to stray in either directions extreme, they sway it back the other way which makes it compelling to watch.
The proof is in the pudding that Pages reaction at the get-go of AEW was past-appreciation/slight-reluctance/apathy. And through the development of this angle he’s arguably one of the most beloved guys. It’s not because “OMG HE DRINKS BEER”, it’s because the character is showing multiple shades of vulnerability, conflict, and perseverance. Cause again..that’s life.
If this angles really too much for people..*shrug* guess I can’t fault you. Don’t watch, perhaps. But as someone that genuinely battled this demon (and felt like I won) it brings me nothing but laughter, joy, catharsis, and most importantly in terms of wrestling, a real investment in the character of Adam “Cowboy Shit” Page.

I know after the Scott Hall angle I thought, "Man, I can't wait to see something similar to this again!" If AEW films in some shitty dive bar south of Indianapolis and have Page crash some cars (both things they involved in 1998), then we'll be going to the Scott Hall angle.

This is far more layered than Hall or Hawk. In this case Page is resorting to drink as a coping mechanism over his own failure to win the AEW title and generally being seen as the lowest member on the totem pole in The Elite.

The Hawk angle was tasteless because the guy suffered from addiction IRL. Page as far as I know doesn't.

Exactly, it's working because it's believable and because we can relate to what he's feeling. Wrestling can deal with nuanced stories if they are handled well and this one definitely has been up to this point. I think he's the most deeply layered character going right now. Congrats on being sober for 2 years as well. Wish you the best keeping it up.

Unlike in the cases of Hall and Hawk, there's no social porn aspect involved in this one. Just a story of a lost fella therapying with the bottle and accidentally somewhat getting to the groove while doing so. I see nothing wrong with it from story perspective, and I've lost family and friends to alcohol and substance abuse.

I feel like the people who have issues with this are looking way too deep into it. I feel like everything that has needed to be said has been said but I will echo the sentiments, this has been one of the best character developments in all of wrestling. And is the perfect example of how you do this type of shit. Hall and Hawk were the ways you don't, and it couldn't be more removed from that.

I just thought the guy liked having a cool beverage after having a match. Like others in the past... Though for some reason he gives me the vibe that he likes drinking warm beer

I love this storyline. They aren't having Hangman do horrible things like Hall and Hawk were doing. It's almost like he's confused on his new found "stardom" (being on a nationally televised wrestling show) and is having a blast. He might be overindulging, but as of now, it hasn't been a problem. I'm sure at some point, there is going to be a point where it harms the partnership with Kenny and possibly the entire Elite, but as of now... i expect AEW to handle that part of the story well too.

Anyone else start thinking about Red Dead Redemption's drunk scenes every time he has apéritifs in his hands?

Anyone else start thinking about Red Dead Redemption's drunk scenes every time he has a apéritifs in his hands? You say that, but there literally was a BTE episode that had a scene that was pretty much a RDR drunk scene.
