It came out this week, and boy, oh boy, people have found lots to hate on this trash heap of a game. It now has the lowest user rating in Metacritic history. On top of that, you can no longer officially play the original Warcraft III whatsoever. You're required to play Reforged. Not to mention, the game actually operates using Chromium for the user interface, and it gobbles up your processor's power like there's no tomorrow due to poor optimization. And, the best part (or worst, eye of the beholder) is that anything you make if you're a custom content creator... will belong to Activision Blizzard forever, and they go into details about how they will own the custom content and how you cannot sue them whatsoever.
This sums up everything. Anyone who's interested in gaming disasters is probably going to want to follow this.

I'm going to look it up but unless you play offline on a dedicated old machine on the install version with its built in bugs, if you're connected to the internet, they sent an automatic patch in May 2019 disabling it.

Lol jeeeeeez. Never heard of any game company doing something like that before. Only thing close to it was the whole 'World of Warcraft 1.0' thing, but at least WoW is an only-online game, and those always need the updated downloads to even play. Never heard of any company fully retconning its own game voluntarily.

You can play the original WC3 solo or on LAN, but you can't access it on Bnet.

I can understand how everyone's taking issues with all of these, but isn't the modding part essentially them saying the quiet part loudly?

They also advertised new cut scenes and updating some lore/maps to match up with WoW. They still are actively advertising this on their website. It didn't happen. Fairly blatant bullcrap.
It was supposed to keep your records and ratings and such from the previous 18 years. It didn't.
Despite being advertised as being backwards compatible with original Warcraft 3 Maps, every single one of my personally made custom games is broken for unknown reasons. "So just open up your old game and play them!?" I can't, they force patched the old game dead.
Old Blizzard Entertainment feels long dead.

I was planning on getting this but now I don't want to. This is essentially Blizzard seeing how much Bethesda f***ed up Fallout 76 and saying "hold my beer."

I almost bought this. I'll give it the 'ol Fallout '76 year and give it a go then.
I have decided to give Fallout '76 another year in the hope it stops being crap.

Remember when Blizzard had a reputation for delivering high quality products that weren't a complete mess and didn't outright lie about missing features, even after they merged with Activision? Those days seem a long time ago. There was a time where I'd give Blizzard games benefit of the doubt because they were always held to a certain standard, if not in just making solid games, then assurances that games would ship out finished and not overwhelmed with bugs. No more. Between this and WoW: Battle For Azeroth, the old Blizzard and what set it apart from other major studios is dead. Now I'm going to take really long "wait and see" approaches to everything they put out from now on between Overwatch 2, WoW Shadowlands, and Diablo 4.
And for what it's worth, the Metacritic average for professional reviews so far is 61. We can make fun of the low user score, but Metacritic doesn't have any protections from review bombings so it gets really dumb there. But the pro reviews being that low (so far) for a game you'd figure would have to try to be bad is not a good sign.

They're doing refunds now. If you bought it, I urge you to get a refund immediately.
