As a big baseball fan I'm disappointed by this. It's too bad they couldn't play a month without fans. I mean the Tampa Rays have been doing it for years.

They were probably gonna do that, and then Rudy Gobert tested positive. Once he tested positive, everything completely changed. Him testing positive led to the NBA postponing their season, which started the snowball effect of everybody postponing or cancelling their seasons.

Yeah I think MLB and other sports were going to go the empty stadium route until the NBA/Gobert changed the entire damn country. I guess it was unavoidable since MLB would have had to shut down the moment a player tested positive for it but so far only one minor leaguer has, and no one from the big league teams. If it wasn’t for the NBA, I think spring training is probably still going on.

Imagine if Gobert, Wood and Mitchell still played. They would have been infecting other players and this shit would have spread

Which is crazy to think that the guy who was one of the most hated people in sports last week is now this rallying point for change and awareness. Imagining all the NCAA conference tournaments and even like HS sports going off without cancellation could have been disasterous for certain communities.

Yea, Gobert went from being the butt of jokes to now probably going to get a ton less flack because while stupid, his antics and positive test really made people take this shit seriously and it saved lives most likely as a result He's also done the right thing in trying to change his image, was remorseful in his apology and now giving back to help fight this Even Mitchell said he was livid and it took him a while to calm down but he understands

Baseball won't resume until Memorial Day, at the earliest.

Baseball won't resume until Memorial Day, at the earliest. I don't think we're gonna get baseball this year. With the CDC and Trump saying to prepare for this to last to July or August, this shit ain't getting better soon. MLB won't have teams playing into the dead of winter. I think they'll shutter this season in about a month or so. I like in Kansas, and freaking K-State has already announced that they're cancelling commencement ceremonies. Fire up your MLB The Show.

I wouldn't go that far. The season can be shortened. Writing off baseball through the rest of the season seems very premature, even with a bad timeline from here.

Baseball won't resume until Memorial Day, at the earliest. I'm predicting an shortened Approx 110 (Give or take) game season (Ala the 1981 strike shortened season with limited interleague play (All interleague games are intradivision, meaning AL East vs NL East) and the All Star game moved to after the World series (Preferably the day after thanksgiving) ala the Pro Bowl being after the Super Bowl (Before the NFL moved the Pro Bowl to the week before the SB a long time ago)

MLB is a $10 billion a year industry. Wiping out an entire season would be a disaster for them. I think they'll try to get the season in, even if it's empty stadium games to get some TV revenue coming in, until fans are allowed back. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, much less 2 months from now, so hard to say anything with any certainty, but cancelling the season would require the absolute worst case happening with this virus (and let's hope it doesn't come anywhere near that).

I'd be okay with the Tigers forfeiting their entire season even when this is contained and operations resume.

Chris Sale will undergo Tommy John Surgery

Chris Sale will undergo Tommy John Surgery Should have had it last August. If he did he probably would have just missed 2020. Now it's probably going to be 2020 and most (if not all) of 2021. Of course the way things are going Sale could be the first pitcher to get Tommy John and not miss any time.

Sale will obviously miss all of 2020 (however long that is), but he's probably out all of 2021 as well. I believe the best ETA is usually closer to 18 months post surgery, and that takes him into September 2021.
Unfortunately, the CBA ends after 2021, and we could be staring at a lockout for 2022, so lord knows when we ever see Sale pitch again. Although I'd be very disappointed if after missing out on so much of 2020 (if they get to start the season at all), they'd still strike after '21. That's the last thing baseball needs.

Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has a torn UCL and will get Tommy John's Surgery "as soon as possible."

Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has a torn UCL and will get Tommy John's Surgery "as soon as possible." People will say "he's overrated, no big deal" but he's MUCH better then people think. He may not be an ace but he's a very good #2. Huge loss for the Mets.
