AOL wrestling chat rooms, and they were like Mad Max. Flame wars, spamming, comments about Goldberg I can not repeat here at all, comments about Chyna’s body I can’t repeat, conspiracy theories about Pete Rose being the eventual Higher Power. It was never boring.

Wayne Gretzky’s Chat Room. It was a thing. This sounds like a video game from a Simpsons episode.

I used to use Teenchatcenter.com for hours a day back in the late nineties. This thread is giving me such strong nostalgia. I really miss being in my 30’s 😕

I started on prodigy and moved on to AOL
I was a moderator in the WWF chat room. I remember my record for account suspensions in a two hour shift was 104

MSN messenger and AIM, mostly. Then I moved to Trillian v3 for my AIM purposes, used Skype for a while (until it started with the ads everywhere), and now...
...nothing, really. Ever since AIM shut down, I haven't found something that I like. Discord and my toaster don't get along.

It was a blast as a chat room host where you banned someone ad by the time you booted them you had six other people to kick.

MSN Messenger
It's weird to think there was a time that I said goodbye to my online friends (mostly from X-Men and Marvel RP sites) logged off and just never logged back on again ...

Yes, and I remember fanboys in literal gang warfare spamming constant “WCW RULES/WWF RULES” posts. It made today’s fan conflicts look down civilized.

My preferred spam as a series of @'s. Young me was a jerk ass.

AIM and ICQ. Microsoft messenger some. My first chat rooms back in like 97 were html based and you had to reload every 60 seconds to see what people typed. It was basically posting images of your favorite bands or wrestlers or naked people in certain rooms.

AIM with occasional MSN. Yahoo was only for games.
Oddly, my former employer in 2016-2017 used Yahoo chat (with occasional AIM and Skype as well) for conversations within the workplace and with business clients.

I first got online around '99 with a WebTV, and the only chat you could use were the WebTV chat rooms.
