To review: The match is a four corners match, where Scott Steiner is to defend his WCW Title against Sid Vicious in a match that is also set to include Stablemate Jeff Jarrett, and a mystery participant to be revealed by Ric Flair who is also an ally (although that has yet to be revealed until the Pay Per View) of Scott Steiner. The story of the match is clear: The face going against all odds to try to take the world title from a heel champion, being backed by his stablemates in a Pay Per View Main event.
Then when the match actually happens, the mystery opponent has yet to arrive and it leads to the match beginning as a 3-way bout, with Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett ganging up on Sid.
Already this makes no sense, because instead of having a 3 on 1 advantage the whole match the heels now have only a 2 on 1 advantage.
Then the one moment from this match, for which it is extremely infamous: Sid Vicious comes off the top rope and gruesomely breaks his leg.
This puts everybody in the match in an awkward spot, Sid is in horrible agony on the mat, but there's still an angle to play out, so Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett have to stay in character, and can't just rush to the finish of the match.
Then the mystery man finally appears, wearing a mask and far too late for it to matter. He puts the boots to Sid, and then Scott Steiner covers for the win.
Then the Mystery Man unmasks...
And it's Road Warrior Animal.
Basically, the match was built around a simple storyline, with a mystery angle thrown in for good measure. Then, to build suspense for the mystery reveal they complicate the simple storyline further. Then after a particularly nasty botch, they leave the severely injured star laying in agony in the middle of the ring, so they can pay off the mystery angle. And then the payoff to the mystery around which the whole match was built, is really extremely disappointing.
Is there a bigger clusterf*** in wrestling history?
