Warren Beatty clinging to the rights doesn't help there. Wasn't there stories/rumors of him wanting to do a sequel a few years ago? I mean, Warren is a cool guy, but he's ancient, and so is the rest of the cast. Some are dead too. Not to mention everybody died in the original movie. But a prequel with a young Tracy would be cool, with Beatty directing or just producing. He's been talking about it forever. the last time it came up was in 2016. But there has been no momentum on it... part of it is I think HE wants to be Tracy still... and he is just far too old for the role.

What's Dick Tracy going to stop? Are gangsters stealing his medication? Kids from getting on his lawn? Irregularity?

I know Beatty still has the rights but in a perfect world there would be a new version with an actor like Jon Hamm in the role

I'm assuming to keep the rights, Warren Beatty did a Dick Tracy Special in character in 2008 that was shown on TCM, where Leonard Maltin interviews him

Michael kills Sonny with a car bomb in this movie. Very upsetting.

I kind of hope they'd use old school makeup to achieve the look of the gangsters, but you know they'd use CGI. Also can I just say I had no idea William Forsyth was Flattop until yesterday.

I love the scene of Big Boy showing the Club Ritz girls what he wants. And damn...I wonder if he cleared it with Madonna where he slaps her in the stomach. I always wince at that.
But him standing next to her yelling, "Give it to me!" is always hilarious.
And Jon Hamm would be awesome. I would also love another all-star cast as the villains. Matthew McConaughey, Seth Rogen, DeNiro, Charlie Day, Chris Pine, etc.
That would be a fun movie. I'm all in for that prequel/reboot.

And the bonus of knowing that all those girls were trained singers and dancers, and they had to be taught how to sing and dance BADLY. Haha.

Also I want to congratulate anybody who ever beat Dick Tracy the videogame. Those snipers on the top of buildings can go to hell. that's the first time I remember a game penalizing you for always using your gun

It's great. Flawed sure, but just a great time. Have always liked it. Wish we'd get a quality blu ray with extras.

If they could wrench the rights over, it would be a great basis for a series for Disney+

And I would be remiss if I didn't mention how some local stations, when the movie came out, thought they could get away airing reruns of the old Dick Tracy cartoons. Only people were reminded of the likes of Joe Jitsu, then suddenly the series got pulled for a while...then mysteriously reappeared with half the cartoons gone. (or so it was at least over at Fox 5 in New York, which aired the UPA series)
TV Guide even gave the stations a "Cheers" for doing so.

It would actively take life away from you to shoot people that were unarmed
