How do you rank North American Pro Wrestling promotions? By North American, I mean U.S. and Canada so no Mexico or Japan. Please note we won't count RAW, Smackdown or NXT as separate entities because they are brands, not promotions. Here is my list -
1.) WWE
2.) AEW
From here it gets a bit tricky and subjective. ROH and Impact could easily switch slots. The reason ROH and Impact are ranked where they are on my list is that they each have a national TV deal, unlike the other promotions listed.
3.) ROH
4.) IMPACT Wrestling
5.) MLW
6.) NWA
7.) SHIMMER
8.) SMASH Pro Wrestling
9.) PWG
10.) CZW

Assuming this is by overall popularity and viewership, with intangibles like hype meaning more the closer the promotions are to each other.
1. WWE
2. AEW
3. Impact
4. ROH
5. MLW
6. NWA
7. GCW
8. EVOLVE
9. SHIMMER
10. Beyond

Plus, I'm curious about what others think and where we agree and disagree. The top four (or arguably five) are pretty much a lock, but 5 - 10 are more about personal taste I feel.

By North American, I mean U.S. and Canada so no Mexico or Japan. Mexico is part of North America. In certain ways, yes, but when the term is brought up by the entertainment industry it typically means U.S and Canada. Also, if I included Mexico this list would have to have a minimum of twenty slots. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

North America is the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Greenland (though politically it's more associated with Europe), and the Caribbean islands. I know geography education is in a sad state right now, but it can't be this bad.
And are we ranking promotions by how much we like them or by how large they are?

Impact has a 2-hour weekly show on basic cable, while ROH does not.

Since we're being strict with what's what in geography, the continent is America. That includes both North and South.

Since we're being strict with what's what in geography, the continent is America. That includes both North and South. North and South America are separate continents. Only one. Anglophone countries divide it into 2, but the rest of the world doesn't and only refers to it as 1 continent with 2 or 3 sub-continents. EDIT: Maybe I should just say "just one for me and those that were taught like I was". The number and division of continents isn't a thing humanity has agreed upon.

And last time I checked, not only I was taught 6 (with just one America) and I clearly wasn't the only one. In fact, we were punished in our tests if we said that North and South America were continents.

I would probably put MLW at the top of those since NWA is a very young promotion, but is doing fairly well for themselves at this point. ROH had a terrible 2019 that would have destroyed most promotions, but they have a very large backer in Sinclair. However ROH could rebound under Marty, so we will see how things go. But they still have a dated format based on giving nothing away.

Currently:
1. AEW 2. NXT 3. GCW 4. NWA 5. Impact 6. WWE main roster
I don't even watch 10 promotions anymore. In the past year I have gone from following like 25 promotions to like 7 (the 7th one is NJPW).
