This thread reminds me of the Alliance vs. Mercenaries match at Survivor Series 90. In kayfabe, Sgt. Slaughter was a traitor who aligned himself with evil foreigners. Nikolai Volkoff's team were good foreigners, and the fans were chanting "USA" in support of them. In reality, 4 of the 8 wrestlers in that match were born in the United States Slaughter, Boris Zhukov, Tito Santana, and I'm kind of blanking on the fourth. Unless, you're referring to the Orient Express, at which case they were still Sato & Tanaka, before Paul Diamond came along. Pat Tanaka is American.

I always think it's funny when USA chants happen when either none of the wrestlers are from the US, or if all of them are. I think Duggan got a USA chant against Bossman/Big Bubba Rogers at least once. Seen that happen a few times at shows. Last time was Gino Medina vs Danny Chance. Danny is billed as from TX and Gino from Mexico. AFAIK Gino was born in TX and lived there his entire life so far. But the crowd had a loud U S A chant for Danny.

Another Bret Hart example...when he got a USA Chant when going against Dino Bravo in the six man at Royal Rumble.
(luckily not when he faced one of the Rougeaus, who ARE All-American Boys!)
Can we put Krusher Khrushchev in the latter category? Same deal as Conway in La Resistance (he was not kayfabe presented as another Russian, but an American convert).
I don't think Ivan Koloff and Dick Murdoch got many USA chants than ones for Dusty or Nikita.
Iron Sheik when appearing at indies is somewhere between the two. He was doing the "don't say USA!" bit but as a joke/caricature by then.

IIRC, there was one time in ECW with Lance Storm and I THINK Super Crazy where the "USA" chant started, Storm pointed things out...and then the crowd started chanting "MEXICO".

A clip got onto Botchamania once of Owens talking into a camera before a match with Sami about the fact that he's probably about to get a USA chant.
The only POSSIBLE excuse the crowd had that time was that KO played up being French Canadian a few times around then so they just mentally defaulted to him being a Crazy Passport gimmick I guess
