I mean Punk took the WWE Backstage gig almost to be spiteful towards Vince whenever he felt like it and rake in easy money, AEW offered him apparently a really good deal for limited wrestling dates and he turned them down
So... can't say I feel really bad? He made his choice.

I am surprised Punk has not already signed with AEW to be honest. If he really wants more creative control and a chance to stick it to WWE then surely that is where to go. He maybe is just genuinely done in the ring, which is a shame if true.

I’ve been out of the loop recently, why is everyone agreeing with Vince on Punk. I don't really understand where the "Punk is an awful person" narrative came from either. bitter, sure. grumpy? yeah. for some reason right around the time of his first MMA loss people started acting like he personally wronged them somehow.

Punk is doing just fine where he is. If he truly wanted to come back, I think he'd be making a more concerted effort to do so.
Alberto needs to stay gone though.

I’ve been out of the loop recently, why is everyone agreeing with Vince on Punk. He comes off as absolutely insufferable. And I used to be Punks number one fan, so either I got older and finally saw it, he’s gotten more obnoxious or it’s all imagined. With the UFC stint, I respected his attempt all the while thinking “..he’s kind of doing the same thing he criticized a lot of wrestlers for”. Except possibly worse? Because MMA is legitimate and it came to fruition how disastrous his aspiration (at his age and experience level) really was. The AEW teasing/ shit talking was a little off-putting but, especially at that time, we didn’t know a whole lot of AEW, so people were still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Leading up to signing with FOX was when I really started to get annoyed with Punk because all you heard from him was “UGH. Wrestling. I’m never going back. Get OVER it”, chastising people left and right for bringing him up, getting annoyed at them. I see this all the time with people and topics and it’s like..”So tune out”? That’s when I started thinking “I genuinely wish no one would bring up Wrestling to/with Punk, so he can have some semblance of happiness”... ...and then he signs with FOX to discuss wrestling and be around wrestling again. Still gave him the benefit of the doubt and saw glimpses of what made me such a big fan of the guy. But I also noticed how guarded he was, seemingly insecure and always trying to (albeit coyly) bring the attention back to him. Got annoying. The Miz thing was the final straw for me. Because he’s in his 40s now and snapping like that? At something so minuscule? And all the while carrying himself like some moral authoritarian who “has the right views when others don’t” (think of his attitude with the Seth Rollins shenanigans) and yet blows a gasket while relying on homophobia slurring to boot?? Way too many contradictions, way too much hypocrisy, way too confusing. Don’t hate the guy but I made my peace with him never being involved with wrestling again when he adamantly feigned that that’s all that he wanted.

Punk being a curmudgeon doesn't affect my ability to enjoy his work, which is why I'm more open to him returning. I don't think he wants to though.
Del Rio is a known abuser, which is a much larger issue for me.

There's this odd thing about humanity. When one person is an asshole, a lot of people tend to not like them.
